So conservatively say at least 2-3 weeks to get into football shape so even if signed in the next week, by the time OBJ gets into football shape and learns the Dallas offense, at best you are looking at him not really being up to speed until near the end of December so is this an attempt to make OBJ a playoff push type signing? Also, there is no way he will settle for a 3-5 game contract so what is Dallas really looking to pay him over what would possibly be a multi-year deal?

OBJ stats:

2020 (7 games): 23 catches 319 yards 3 td's

2021 (14 games): 44 catches 537 yards 5 td's

While he had back to back just over 1,000 yards seasons in 2018 & 2019, he is nowhere near the WR he was the first 3 seasons of his career (2014-2016) so I am not sure why all the desire to sign him to Dallas.
If you don't know why and the potential he brings not even at his best teams will respect him and open up the other guys and this offense. If you don't get that then...idk man

When is the last time they over-paid an outside Free Agent?

I was talking about in General, not specifically to Free Agents. But if we are getting down to a bidding war against other teams, and other teams have enough fiscal responsibility not to spend more than a certain amount on a player, but we win the bid because of that, then we know we overspent.

In 2019 OBJ had 74 catches for 1,035 yards and 4 td's....so not really Mayfield's fault. In 2020 OBJ missed 9 games with injury and started to wear out his welcome in Cleveland much like he had done in NY.
Not one player other than Mayfield felt like he wore out his welcome. To the point that players told the media they were upset at Baker for alienating OBJ. Mayfield left and the team leaders like Chubb and Garrett crapped on him. OBJ was beloved in Cleveland, Baker was not.

So he was beloved in NY....traded....he was beloved in Cleveland.....forced release....Rams signed him to only 1-year deal.....

....if so beloved why does he keep leaving teams on bad terms or not signed longer?

He’s a WR man, he’s not going to want to remain on teams with crap QB play. Late career Eli and Baker aren’t guys you want to hitch your wagon to. He was a bit loud in NY but he was young and at the height of his stardom, it’s not uncommon.

I think it’s quite obvious what happened in Cleveland. When current and former players as well as coaches are openly speaking about how Mayfield was an organizational anchor. Is Jarvis Landry an issue too because he wanted to get away from Mayfield?

The Rams is not even an argument lol they literally offered him a contract months back and saved his locker. All his teammates asked for him back and McVay said the same.

We act as if Dallas is the only team interested, KC, Buffalo, and San Fran are firmly in the mix. Those are all top tier organizations, pretty good sign that there’s value there.

It’s an unfortunate coincidence that he had back to back crappy QB’s and departures. I’d compare it with TO. Owens had multiple guys to defend him and also multiple guys that didn’t like him. Outside of Mayfield, not one teammate has ever had anything other than praise for him. Even the media, who rarely let’s go of that narrative, has not pushed that.

Your concern isn’t unwarranted I get it, but when diving into the circumstances of his NYG/CLE stints it seems to me and to organizations around the league that he wasn’t some unmanageable cancer.

Isn’t the complaint that we don’t pay for outside FA’s? When’s the last time we did so, Brandon Carr?

I'm not one of the ones that complains, because I believe in building the team through the draft, to keep the team young instead of getting older. As far as wideouts, with either trades or free agency, when did we get one from another team that worked out besides TO and Terry Glen? I still have memories of Roy Williams, Keyshawn Johnson and Joey Galloway that didn't quite work out here, while I think the cowboys have been good at developing their own receivers as of late. I'd just hate to waste a lot of capital on OBJ and then he is a non factor.

Uh this team is not run anything like it was in those days. I get the idea of all time history but transactions that happened 10+ years ago aren’t really a good way to judge how the team operates.

Ever since Stephen Jones and Will McClay have taken control, it’s draft and low ball FA’s. The actions you’re referring have not been the norm in years. Overpaying for FA’s is no longer how this team operates and it hasn’t been in awhile. Gotta update your referencing brotha.

I would think I would visit team I am most likely going to last as to use the other teams offers/perks against the final team I would visit.

Exactly. Those other teams might have unshelled pistachios in their meetings. You can fill up for free from each team!

If we sign OBJ to a contract similar in years and money as Gallup, what do we do in the future with Lamb? Having 3 high priced WR seems inefficient considering the cap. Do we go back to using two thirds of the cap on offense and having a crap D? I have no problem bringing him in for the rest of this season, but not multiple years.

Giants obviously things didn't end rosy... .but Cleveland Baker just couldn't get him the ball and he requested his release. Browns would have preferred to keep him. LA they loved him, he only signed a short deal to try and win a title and hit FA to cash in. Unfortunately he tore his ACL

His contract is likely two years. He will be off the books when we have to resign Lamb

Our facilities/stadium blow theirs out of the water.

Unless the money is dramatically different, i would expect him to come here.
