Gervon Dexter, DT Florida

Mazi got popped on a weapons charge. At least at the moment his stock likely falling. A ready made Cowboys 2nd round pick.
I can’t see how a pure NT with not much pass-rushing ability goes in Round 2

Dream scenario right there
It would be a dream scenario if he dropped to us in the second. With his character and being a co-captain, I think a lot of NFL teams will look past the charge. From what I've read he got his concealed permit. He would fit right in here in Texas everybody carries a gun lol

What he brings is stopping the run, and taking on dbl teams. Sometimes it's not always about the sacks it's about discipline and staying in your lane.

This team clearly has guys that can get to the QB. We don’t have those physical guys on the DL to set the tone. Galli and Osa are finesse guys. And Bo doesn’t play up to his size. Smith is a big physical athletic kid. Ika is another big physical athletic dude. Benton from Wisconsin is another guy. We don’t have to use our top pick on this type of player, but throwing 5th and 6th rounders ain’t getting it done.

I looked up the Mazi Smith weapons charges. He got pulled over and was carrying a handgun in his car without a permit.

It's never good to see "felony charges" besides your name, but by football player standards, this is a nothing burger. The majority (of pros at least) own and/or pack guns, so Smith isn't doing anything out of line. He cooperated with the cops, and the Michigan AD defended him saying he's "not a threat to the university or community."

He'll be able to plead down to a misdemeanor because he's a D-1 football player and hopefully get the paperwork straightened out. Legally, he will probably be clear by the draft unless the prosecutor really wants to turn the screws. And I don't really see this as a sign of poor character moving forward.

Most teams seem to stay away from these types until Round 3 at the earliest
