Fans have it backwards about Dan Quinn

Parsons and Diggs are the only elite talents on defense. Clark and Bland might be in that category next year.

The Cowboys must add at least 1 elite player for next year. Preferrably at DT but a truly elite player at any position would be a huge improvement.

I think Lawrence is pretty close when he's healthy, which isn't often enough. When Lawrence redid his deal earlier this year, Todd Archer wrote this about him: Over the past five seasons, Lawrence has the fifth-best pass rush win rate (24.9%), the fifth-best pressure rate (11.7%) and 206 pressures (seventh best in the league).

We tend to underrate him because of the sack numbers.

Dan Quinn over- achieved relative to the talent on the roster early this season and most of last season.

The bad games on defense are due to the players playing at their actual talent level as a group. Quinn can't scheme away a lack of talent in all games.

Anthony Barr played over 90% of snaps in the Jax game...no other team wanted him at this point in his career. Barr can't outrun Jason Peters in a footrace.

Wilson is an average Safety that Quinn schemed to look like a very good Safety in some games. Same for Kearse.

DT Watkins is playing extensive snaps as the starting 1tech DT.

The 4th and 5th CBs are starting now and we don't know who is the 5th CB.

At first I was going to counter this post but the more I read the more I found myself agreeing with you on most points.

The DT situation in Dallas is really awful. Other than Lawrence they are really a JAG unit. This has been true all year. This is why letting Hill go had not effect on the DL. I think they could have let any of the DTs go, with the exception of Hankins, and it could not have made a difference.

The Barr situation is someone's mistake. Whose decision was it to inactivate Cox and play Barr? Cox can at least run. He has proven he can make it to the sidelines to stop a running QB.

It's a coaches job to maximize strengths and minimize weaknesses, both individually and collectively. I think the injuries are taking a toll more recently, making it more challenging to do both. The emphasis seems to be sacks, and the run defense in Dallas has been suspect both before and after, Quinn arrived.

Quinn likely signed off on a good deal of the players he currently has, like the players they resigned this past offseason: Kearse, Hooker, LVE, Armstrong, etc...as well as some of the other free agents like Barr & Hankins, and draft pick Sam Williams. He's even brought in a few old Falcons: Neal, Kazee, Fowler, Takk).

Ok….Wilson and Kearse are schemed players? Dude all your credibility just went out the window…..

So what you’re saying is that the GM put up an average roster, and hasn’t addressed the biggest weakness the “run defense” that has hindered post-season success for 5 years.

Exactly he watched our division rival that we probably will face address run defense like we should have with taking the best free agents available in Linville Joseph and Suh.

Now with Jordan Davis back they're stacked at that position and we are waiting for it to be our undoing.

Have a link or supporting evidence? It’s ok to have an opinion of your own of course. But this post seems to imply Dan Quinn is sending a message to fans. Maybe he did say it, but I doubt he gives a rats behind what any of us think, lol. Would be helpful if you had some kind of evidence though

Yeah, I agree that this thread is very misleading. It is written as if Dan Quinn is saying this about the fans but nowhere does the OP supply a link or any evidence that DQ actually said this.

I think this is just his own personal opinion stated in a way that makes is seem like it came from Quinn himself. Like I said, very misleading.

Quinns best achievement is getting 11 guys to relentlessly persue the football and play collectively above their talent lever. There isn't enough talent to overcome multiple injuries and constant turnovers.

no one could’ve predicted bossmanfat getting killed on the field. The Cowboys lost collectively, but I just feel like bossmanfat giving up that bomb was a gut punch they never recovered from. I don’t see what else DQ can do for this team. His CB2 is *** and the league seems to be aware of that now. The one thing DQ could possibly due is leave Diggs on an island Revis style and roll significant coverage over to CB2 that way your either throwing at Diggs or throwing into coverage.

They also started playing the run and it slowed the pass rush way down. Our players (a lot of the same players) earlier this year was getting to the qb in a second. Once teams figured out to run off edge after DE pushed up field they really started gashing the middle. Getting that rush got us sacks and made secondary look good. We need to move Parsons around. Or back to LB for a while. Constantly being on the line is wearing him down.

What about the offense besides CeeDee, Martin, and Pollard. The Cowboys have average overall talent that has been elevated by coaching. 10-4 and clinched a playoff spot with 3 weeks left in the season. Averaging 35 points since Dak came back. The Cowboys have overachieved.

Post of the week. Quinn loves his players...they love him. He helps them rise up and maximize potential. We just got talent holes still that might prevent us from going all the way. A strong healthy cornerback and a DT away.

Reality bites, but there it is. (We do still have a 1 in 10 shot.)

I think you have to ask what major talent we have drafted or signed ( free agent ) to address the run defense. Fans and media have been begging for a top DT for years. I suppose one can argue LVE and Parsons but LVE has injury issues and Parsons is more of a pass rusher. In other words, we have spent the last 5 years either scheming or using marginal players to fix the run defense and it hasn't worked at all.

Quinn’s done fine. Currently hurting badly from injuries.

I’ll say this though. If he sticks around and continues to try and make Micah a full time DE he’s going to ruin him. And that’ll be one of the worst Cowboys coaches decisions I can remember.

Good excuse for Dan Quinn......... but what's the excuse for not stopping the run game......every team is facing injuries no excuses for allowing 500yds to the JAGs....Dan Quinn has been exposed....fraud

I don’t see anything wrong with this opinion. Many of us have been asking either what pieces are missing from this defense or how to fix the run defense. I’ve maintained that this roster on defense is far far behind the talent level of our two biggest NCF competitors.

If the OP is suggesting that Quinn has been doing this with smoke and mirrors I think it’s a valid point to consider

I don’t know why the media always acts like our roster is so wonderful. Incredible overrated IMO and lacking talent in quite a few key areas.

We have a good roster, but not a roster talented enough to make a playoff run.

Quinn has done a good job in 2 years he’s been here. He needs 1 more off-season of talent acquisition before we can really judge him…Priority 1 needs to be DT (stop the run) and a CB opposite Diggs…and better depth players.

Dallas has been a plug and play team since 1996. Elite talent plugged in, minimal results. Good talent plugged in, minimal results. Average talent plugged in, minimal results.

This team has had good runs with a good mixture of talent, but there always seems to be something missing. By the end of each season, even the players are bewildered.

Will the blank look that Kearse had on his face, be the look at years end?

A team that can't sustain a high level of intensity when things are truly on the line, just doesn't sustain commitment consistently and starts to drop in value.
