Maybe instead of concentrating in just wins and losses. Maybe they should actually select the 4 best teams…

That’s technically what they are supposed to do.

Which 4 teams would you have chosen? If TCU doesn’t count, then neither does Michigan since TCU beat them.

Even though Ohio St had that 2 quarter lapse to finally lose to rival Michigan, I thought they were the 2nd best team in the country behind UGa entering the playoff..

I think the results kind of proved that

I think that should the select the 4 best teams at the time of the selection, regardless of who won what Championship, or who lost to who. Just who are the best 4 teams at the time of the selection, Period.

They used to do that........ Bama was better than TCU and Michigan , but they went strictly by record.

Bama wasn't as good this year as Bama fans think they were. They finally played like they were capable of against KState, but the rest of the season they weren't that great. Honestly, what on their resume would have convinced the committee to put them in over TCU or Michigan? Their 4th place finish in the SEC? Their quality win over Texas?

I'm not arguing they should have been put in necessarily. But you can look at the talent on the rosters and see the disparity. TCU would not finish .500 in the SEC.

K-State beat TCU in the Big 12 title game and they were not even close to the level of Alabama. People biased against the SEC like to think that their favorite conference is on par with the SEC and it just ain't so. Go look at recruiting. Go look at the NFL draft. Talent is not evenly distributed around the country or between conferences. When I say the SEC is on another level. Thats not being a homer. Its stating a fact. Alabama blew out K-State b/c they had an overwhelming talent advantage that was battle tested against better teams all year.

Of course there's a huge disparity. Georgia and Alabama outspend everyone on recruiting and Alabama has the #1 recruiting class basically every season. Honestly, they shouldn't be losing to anyone when they have all the best players. TCU ranked around #40 the past 4 years in recruiting classes. But again, who cares? If you don't win your games then you don't get in. If you want to judge on who has the best team on paper and hypotheticals ("TCU would not finish .500 in the SEC") then why bother playing the season? Just say this team has the best recruits and we think they'd beat all these teams so they're in the playoffs. Alabama was favored in both their games they lost. That's why they play.

If you're recruiting class is anywhere in the top 10 (and especially top 5) its almost interchangeable
Georgia, Ohio St, Alabama, Clemson, LSU.....look at all the classes from 2019-2021 and they will be top 5 in almost all of them.

But if you're top 30-40 and you keep your guys a year or two longer than those other schools, you have a shot. There's also the transfer portal now.

Btw, I notice TCUs incoming class is ranked 19th

And that's a great class for TCU, but there are 7 SEC schools that rank higher. UGA and Bama are always 1 or 2. You stack 3-4 top 3 classes together and that's a loaded roster. Very few other schools are able to string top 5 classes together in consecutive years let alone annually. UGA will probably be favored to win again next year b/c their is literally no drop off in talent when they lose guys to NFL.

And I don't think its a 56 point difference. I'm just messing with those guys b/c its fun and I was bored.

And on top of that, UGA has a disgustingly easy schedule next year. Many teams would have a good chance of making it to the CFP with their 2023 schedule.

Yeah...I wasn't in on the SEC pissing contest discussion with you guys.

I was just pointing out to him that Alabama is not the only team to have great classes every year so just having a great class does not mean they should "win every game".
Same goes for Georgia, Ohio St, LSU, Clemson, etc.
There are several top recruiting teams and someone has to lose.

There's still quite the disparity there with Alabama. They have the most 5-star recruits by far and 27/28 commits are 4-5 stars.

TCU has zero 5 stars and 10/24 commits are 4 stars. Even looking at Tennessee in the top ten, they have one 5 star and 13/25 commits are 4-5 stars. Bama has to be 3 deep at every position with 4+ star recruits.

I know there will never be a fair system. I was accused of being a communist and having Marxist ideology for even suggesting the NCAA come up with some sort of cap to create more parity. I guess the NFL is communist for having a salary cap.

You seem to think that I was comparing TCU to Bama.
I was comparing Bama to Ohio, St, Georgia, LSU, Clemson, etc.....not TCU

I was just trying to lift his spirits by mentioning TCU has a good incoming class, for them.

I understand that, but do you really want 5 teams basically having all the best players and the only shot to win every year? That's more my concern. I mean that's what it's turning into. Every once in a while a Clemson team will build a power team then fade away and we're left with OSU and the SEC teams. It's just not enjoyable to me (and admittedly I'm just whining about an unfair system that will never change). I prefer the NFL where you never know who will win every year (granted teams with the top QBs are going to be there yearly).

If anyone is curious, here are the 5 star recruits brought in by some of the top recruiting programs for the last years.
Some have left already to the pros but it gives a sense of how things were going 2018-2022

Georgia...25 five stars
Alabama...19
Ohio St....18
Clemson...16
Texas AM...13
LSU...10

the order is slightly different with 4 stars with Bama leading, but all the same group except add in Texas

Neither Ohio State or TCU won their final game before the 4 teams were chosen to be in the playoffs. It is based on paper and hypotheticals and will be so even if they expand the number of teams.
