What will it take to come out hot on first series of downs?

Cowboys always seem to come out flat or at least we do so too often. Do we need to have some live full speed scrimmage before kickoff? Takes awhile to get Dak to chill out among others with same issue?

There is an automatic letdown from the defense when the offense scores. We saw it Monday against the Bucs but just happened to get lucky that Brady wimped his throwaway pass. Struggling early if it keeps the defense focused is not necessarily a bad thing.

Kellen has to have a good script. I think they will come out better than last week, the playoff yips won't be as present this time after the confidence thay gained from beating the bucs to the ground. It would not surprise me that if we win the coin toss we'd take the ball right away and drive down field for at least a FG.

Zeke on the bench

Run Dak up the middle as a fullback the first two downs. I'm only half-joking.

He's just too amped up at the beginning of games and seems to settle down after some exertion and contact. Don't ask him to finesse throws until you make him go try to run over a linebacker. Smash mouth always seems to settle him down and improve his focus.

Sometimes, and too many times for Dallas, it teaks a series or two by many teams. To figure out how the opponents teams are going to play them.
This is one of Moore's faults possibly. Or the other teams defense is just fired up.

Then once the game settles down, and the game plan sets in. Many combinations of things week to week. I still say it is more on Moore.

As I'm sure you know I've complained about this pretty much since Moore took over play calling. I am firmly of the belief that he uses those first 12-15 "scripted" plays to feel the defense out instead of attacking what should be known weaknesses and favorable matchups from the jump. I mean I get that we want to start out with some quick easy throws to try to get Dak into rhythm so I'm good with not going bombs away right out of the gate but the bootleg to a tight end or a straight handoff up the gut or a WR screen can't be the only plays in the playbook to start the game with. People a quick to blame Dak for the slow starts but I am quick to point out that before Moore was promoted to OC the Cowboys were notorious for scoring TDs on their opening drives. That all stopped with Moore...

I often wondered if he scripted the plays. I never heard him or the team say he did. I did see it in an article about a year or so ago, but it was just one comment, and they did not outright say he did, or elaborate on it. Maybe the writer was just thinking he may have.

Dak was nervous for a couple series, then realized he had all day and wide open receivers . This week may be different.

Great Point!

Scott Linehan was Great at opening 12-15 plays, but we all remember the archaic offense, rare in game adjustment and Romo constantly bailing out the Offense.

Hopefully Moore and Dakota can find a playoff run formula.

Yeah when the defense is on the field, after he scores a TD.
Only way your hero scores is if he is gifted a 1 yard plunge. He got one in Tampa and got completely stuffed. As usual, Dak had to run it in for us.
