How much of a need would you consider 3T

Keeping it short and simple because I want your takes on this. Not you takes on my take.

Most of the DT talk has centered around 1T's. How much of a need would you consider 3T?

Huge. Carter looked like a man among boys the other night. Wont get out of the top 5 though. Where we draft and the available talent at this position dont seem to mesh.

Good question, haven't really thought about it because I think Osa will benefit from a competent NT.

I've seen Dallas ignore NT so long, I don't want a good 3T with a sorry NT. They need to commit to both positions.

Eh, on a 1 to 10 scale, 8 maybe 9. Think there’s much bigger needs, especially at corner, LB and even 1t. That said, if someone fell and was the clear cut best player and a difference maker I’d have no problem taking them. Just not sure that player will be around at our pick and fairly sure they’ve hitched their wagons to OSA anyway!

Usually an NT isnt going to play on passing downs. Most teams play both DT's at a 3T on sub packages. So you are likely going to have two 3T's playing 60% of the snaps and an NT play 40% or less

Dallas runs a Nascar package, so the 3T is used much here in obvious pass downs. Those base packages (1st/2nd down) is where that 3T needs a good NT to keep doubles off him, so he can be more effective.

The Cowboys don't have the patience to watch for a DT to develop over 3 years. But it takes them that long to reach their potential. They gave up on Ridgeway after a few months. Very few DTs come in and wreck the place in year 1. They look better in year two but still nothing special. By the end of year 3, they start to show what they can do. This is why I am so disappointed in Gallimore. This should have been a breakout year for him. Osa should break out next year. Same with Bohanna. If we don't see improvement in those guys then DT becomes an imperative either in the draft of free agency.

And by the way, there is no chance the Cowboys chase Payne from Washington. We already know they do not sign top tier free agents, and the Commanders are not going to let him go to Dallas. We need to look elsewhere.

Big need. Whether it's a 3T or 1T, the interior DL has been the missing piece on defense every year. They have had decent edge rushers, even before Parsons (from Lawrence to one year rentals like Robert Quinn, Aldon Smith, Michael Bennett, etc.) You can sign a vet FA to help boost the pass rush...it's much harder to find a quality 3T

I think Odighizuwa had a really solid sophomore campaign. He’s one guy I could see take another step next season in his 3rd year.

At minimum, he’s a quality starter/rotation guy. We do have question marks next to him at 1T. Gallimore never made the leap and seems to have fallen out of favor. I have seen some marked improvement w/Bohanna but he’s not a starting-caliber player.

I wish the Jones’ would open up their purse strings and make a run at Daron Payne.

It's a humongous need. The Cowboys do not have anyone inside who is a consistent disruptor. Odighizuwa is a good rotational piece, but not a front liner. The rest of the lot are replacement level guys. Adding Payne would be outstanding, but they need beef that can actually play as well. They need to add at least two players at the DT position to adequately address the holes.

Upgrading either DT spot would be a big win this offseason. I really like Osa as more of the 1st DT rotated in and a 3rd down player then a full time starter & Gallimore has been nothing more then some flashes here and there and nothing consistent. Honestly if i had it my way, we would spend our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks on the big uglys and draft 2 DTs and a OG. Control the trenches and you control the game

If Quinn leaves, a new DC will review the film and also have DT at the top of the needs list.

It was a good pick up but a cheap one in both pick and money
I frankly do not see a top DT picked and no way will they spend what is needed to get Payne. Jerry and company simply do not value that position. No matter what Quinn or any coach says.
