A tight end in the first round? Blashphemy around Dallas ever since David LaFleur in 1997. Having Jason Witten for a bazillion seasons has a lot to do with that, but Washington looks like the perfect candidate at the right time for the Cowboys.
Yes, there’s a ton of promise in Jake Ferguson and potentially even Peyton Hendershot, but what Washington brings to the table is a unique force multiplier.
Washington is reminiscent to a TE Mike McCarthy inherited in Green Bay, Bubba Franks; the former Miami tight end who stood 6-foot-6. At 6-foot-7, Washington is an imposing figure who would strengthen every part of the Cowboys’ offense. His run blocking is superb, his chipping in pass pro is top notch and he’d be the ultimate weapon for Dak Prescott with the return of the play-action pass to the offense. What Washington can do with the ball in his hand and catches over the middle is majestic for a man his size.
Defenses are going to double team CeeDee Lamb and getting Washington on crossing patterns after the WR clears things out is going to be a thing of beauty.

2.58 Tennessee WR Jalin Hyatt

Keep building. The biggest missing component from the Cowboys’ offense in 2022 was speed. Beyond Lamb, there wasn’t a wideout who threatened defenses and even WR1’s skillset is more predicated on the other facets of being an elite receiver. Hyatt can run past defenders as proven in his big season in Knoxville.
6-foot even and 185 pounds, Hyatt averaged just under 19 yards a catch and scored 15 touchdowns in a spread offense. Can that translate to the NFL? McCarthy employed spread concepts during his final years of Green Bay out of necessity born from injuries. He’d be able to maximize the good parts of what that looked like while the Volunteer’s route tree developed.

I don't like the 1st Round TE...I think we can move forward with what is on the roster and a FA .....They still have 3 pretty good TE after Dalton. I would rather go CB or DE and even LB in Round 1. I would wait for Round 2 and 3 to target WR or RB if they move away from Elliot. I personally don't think JJ will allow Elliot to leave unless he really doesn't want to get a pay cut. I think Pollard will be Franchised! I don't think anybody else would be considered. Donovan Wilson....I don't think he will command big bucks, but I am sure a team will throw a money bag at him. Solid player who deserves a payday.

There's no way on Earth we're drafting Achane.

Not in Dallas.

I like that we drafted two backs in this one, and the Aubrey Miller pick is interesting. I can get on board with that one.

I like the fact that the mock draft has 2 wide receivers and 2 running backs, a guard, 2 corner backs, lb, and dt. Only
problem is the draft is based on needs (holes) that Dallas has.

no to the first 3 draft picks. we need to draft LB, DT, CB. we have enough TEs, that can give us similar productivity as Schultz. we don't need top 5 TE to be successful. no WR, we can trade for one in off season.

we need to invest in defense, with tough physical players. not Diggs who thinks he is playing flag football. look at SF. they did it with tough mindset, tough physical defense.

we have a great TE rm already, even if schultz walks. I cant see the team drafting a TE.IF HES THERE AT 58, we might.

Word is drafting Washington is like having a 6th OLineman on the field as receiver also. I starting to like this kid a lot even at 26. He would have an immediate impact on the running game, pass protection, and crazy mismatches.
He reminds me of Marty B, the player not the off the field. Strong inline blocker, but a developing pass receiver. Think I rather have Mayer, as he can do both.

Ehh on Washington in the 1st.

I like Hyatt in the 2nd.

But this draft is way too offensive centric. Then again, Jerry and Stephen are desperate to help Dak, so they might go offense early and often in the draft.

Yeah unless there’s a legit starting level free agent DT, CB and possibly LB signed I think this would leave the defense pretty short handed. Can’t overcorrect too hard towards offense

Plenty of solid cheap help at DT (Robinson, Peters) and at LB this offseason!

I'm not sure if taking him at 26 is reaching a bit but whatever it takes I DO NOT wanna leave the draft w/o this kid. As stated before, he literally impacts 2 positions on every play. Hell, match him up with Ferguson.......easy chain movers

Been saying this since the latest playoff debacle. I think it is a virtual certainty.

I don't se it for Darnell Washington in the 1st.

A 1st round TE has to be an elite receiver. Blocking TEs are available later.

I think his receiving production in college was limited.

The big quesion if route running. Both the mental and physical aspects of it.

He is not close to Michael Mayer, IMO. Mayer is Witten 2.0

You mean because he is too small?

MartyB's physical talent was off the charts but he was a huge knucklehead.

100M body, 10 cent head
