ESPN NFL Nation 2022 Re-Draft

Yea, I hope he improves and gets better and he should.

But what are you basing “he outperformed all rookies” on? I’ve seen zero to back that up.
I would have to take a deep dive on the rest of the tackle class, but here in NY, the #1 tackle drafted, Evan Neil was a total disaster playing right tackle and he was suppose to be the most ready prospect

Well that’s kind of my point…don’t think it’s fair to say Tyler has been the best rookie OT without knowing how the other players did.

I’ve done that digging, and Ickey had a better year…comfortably.

He was a top 10 pick and should of had he much better season, however, I don't think this is an apples to apples comparison, Tyler played in a more passing offense, played against 1 of the top divisions and a 1st place schedule. Carolina played almost zero meaningful games against the worst division in football with a last place schedule. Agree to disagree.

As for Tyler Smith moving forward, his potential upside is immense, he has exceptional work ethic and even looks outside the organization to help with his development. From the time he was drafted, until the 49er playoff loss, he has grown leaps and bounds and will only get better with more experience. He is least of our worries along the OL and will be a fixture for years to come either at Tackle or at Guard.

Yea but you could make the argument that Ickey had nothing to play for so the fact he had a good year is impressive.

Agree on everything you said about Tyler but as of right now he was one of the weakest links on our OL. I’m sure he’ll improve but just stating facts of his play right now based on what the metrics say. Not my opinion.

Writers from each team are on the clock to re-draft the 2022 draft's first two rounds.

Two of the Cowboys class are selected.

-

6. Carolina Panthers
Original pick: Ikem Ekwonu, OT
New pick: Tyler Smith, OT

With quarterback Brock Purdy off the board here, it would have been easy to stick with Ekwonu. He had a solid season after a slow start and has shown the promise to be a long-term solution to a longtime issue. Smith, however, graded out slightly higher for the league's ninth-ranked run offense and allowed seven sacks after being thrown into the position right before the season. Ekwonu allowed eight. -- David Newton

60. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Original pick: Cam Taylor-Britt, CB (CIN traded up)
New pick: DaRon Bland, CB

When this draft happened last April, the Bucs had cornerbacks Carlton Davis, Jamel Dean and Sean Murphy-Bunting, had moved Antoine Winfield Jr. to nickelback and had Logan Ryan and Mike Edwards at safety. That's a solid group on paper. But none of them had five interceptions this season -- Murphy-Bunting had the most with three -- and there were moments when the Bucs desperately needed a takeaway, going five consecutive games without one. Plus, Dean and Murphy-Bunting are set to become free agents, as is Edwards. Adding Bland to the group would have given them a boost, as he finished his rookie season in Dallas with five picks and seven passes defended. -- Jenna Laine

Todd, Todd, Todd drafts for Dallas and leaves Sam Williams on the board in the 2nd round for a falling 1st rounder.

Original pick: Tyler Smith, OT
New pick: Kaiir Elam, CB

That Smith went so high in the first round in this re-draft shows you the Cowboys were onto something when they took him. Linemen Zion Johnson and Kenyon Green were other options in April, but Elam is the pick here, not just because of what he did this season (two interceptions for Buffalo) but because he fits the size profile Dallas wants in corners. The Cowboys were shown to be thin at corner after losing Jourdan Lewis and Anthony Brown to injuries. -- Todd Archer

56. Dallas Cowboys
Original pick: Sam Williams, OLB
New pick: Kenyon Green, G

The 6-foot-4, 323-pound Green was an option in the first round for the Cowboys last April because the team liked his position flexibility. As a rookie, he started 14 games and would project as a long-term part of the Dallas offensive line. Williams had four sacks and flashed at times, but Green is the better value here. -- Todd Archer
I really don’t get the mediocre view of Tyler Smith By some on the zone. He is going to be a very good left tackle. He had a very serviceable rookie year. Bland I’m even more thrilled about. The second round selection was great he just hast to get back an and heal.

C'mon he isn't one of our weakest links, McGovern clearly was the worst starter on the OL and he most likely played his last game with the team.

Yea, McGovern was the worst and then Tyler.

According to PFF, Ekwonu gave up the same amount of sacks the same amount of penalties and graded out lower than Smith. Smith allowed 6 sacks in 589 pass blocking snaps and logged 1095 snaps which was more than any other rookie Tackle in the class.

There ain’t a GM in the sport that would look to replace a kid who had that kind of year that turns 22 in April. Also has the physical gifts and work ethic to be one of the best LT’s in the sport. IMO it‘s insane.

Lol, Ekwonu and Smith were credited with 6 sacks each and tied each other for most penalties at 13. At best it’s a push. Considering Ekwonu still looks like a tackle who just needs technique development and Tyler looks like his best position is guard I’m thinking this wasn’t really thought out!

So Ekwonu who by the way graded out lower than Smith looks like a Tackle but Smith looks likes a Guard. Unbelievable.

Tyler smith will not play Guard again.he is future at LT,with an offseason practicing only at the Tackle spot he is going to a monster.

I hope we see Tyler at LG this year. I think he could be so good at G.

The plan before Steele got hurt was to move him inside with Tyron back at LT. It’s almost certain that’s what they do next year with Waletzko playing the RT till Steele returns. Tyler is a guard in this league!

Uh yeah, Smith had a much better surrounding cast. He doesn’t have the lateral quickness and foot speed to play the position long term!

I forgot he was playing with an elite LG and Center. I think your absolutely wrong. But that is your opinion. Thankfully I think this team knows they have their LT and won’t be wasting a 1st round pick on one.

Who said anything about a 1st round pick on LT? Tyron is your LT next season (was kinda clear on that)! As others have said there’s a good possibility Tyron gets extended. Biadasz was the 1st alternate center for the pro bowl… guessing players and coaches have a fairly high opinion of him… more so than fans. And yeah, my opinion Tyler has the potential to be an all pro guard… he has some physical limitations that limit his ceiling at LT to average at best!

Tyron is done. But I guess it will take another year for that to sink in for some folks here. The fact that you think his ceiling is average is hilarious.

Lol, and you’re basing this on what, your inability to recognize the value of a player that can be left on an island. Terron Armstead has missed more games while playing 2 fewer seasons and signed an 87m contract 54m guaranteed last offseason! Trent Williams has only played the entire season twice during his career and yet posters here fawn over him!!!
