Washington has 2 pluses for me that project really well for his career.

1. Washington is a better run blocker than any of those TEs, and that trait alone will lead to a long career. His blocking is exceptional.

2. That Short Shuttle!!! I think there could be some untapped receiver potential in Washington's game. UGA has an outstanding TE1 who was the receiving TE while DW did the dirt work. A good technical TE Coach to develop route running is key for him to reach his potential.

Washington's short shuttle time is nuts. Most times, tall guys get kind of tight and lumbering. Washington is anything but.

You throw that in with 6th OL level blocking, and he's a pretty special dude.

Bennett was a good receiver with the Giants and Packers what was his problem in Dallas?
He is extremely immature and would complain about Witten. Bennett's best attribute was his blocking, but never developed as a high end receiver here.

From what I heard Witten and Romo were issues. He did win a Super Bowl with the Giants.

Is the point of this thread that you can’t judge a player by measurables and combine testing? Because I feel like you could do this with almost any player at any position, there will be both good and bad comps based solely on size and athleticism

If anything, this shows how insanely overrated measurables can be
the entire spectrum of players, all with fairly similar measurables

having said that, a certain baseline is nice

I don’t know if Washington is going to become an elite receiver or not.

That being said, I couldn’t hate the pick at 26 because of his potential, and ability to immediately come in and be an elite blocker.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see him become a Cowboy if the CBs and WRs the team likes are gone.

TE is probably my least position of worry. we seem to get production with whoever we have. Ferguson last year did well in his opportunities and i simply love being able to yell GO TURD FERGUSON at the tv.

it's a hoot.

if there is a solid prospect late, great. if not, find a solid FA cause in the end, he won't be a playmaker on the offense, but at most a blocker and chain mover *at times*.

why is it that even Bennett and Gathers are on this.....I can give you 100 other guys and their measurables. the facts that Gathers sucked and was barely a basketball player and bennett was just not any good.

that's why I hate these type of comparisons.....meaningless

instead tell me about their ability to run routes, cutting without wasted steps, blocking technique, ability to read defense and find the zones, etc......

Your proving my point.

Measurables alone don't slot where a player should or will be drafted.

Are people really hoping he becomes an "elite" receiver. Are there many examples of TEs doing that after college (with the obvious Antonio Gates exception)? I'm not even out on Darnell per say and would expect him to improve as a WR but if people are wanting a TE who can put up huge recieving #s I think you go with Mayer (my personal favorite) or Kinkaid. You take Darnell because he's a monster blocker and hope he's a league average or slightly above average receiving TE imo. People setting themselves up for a let down with him I fear.

I respect this argument. I do think the reason we always seem to get production from TEs though is because Dak LOVES them. Maybe it was just the Witten effect at the beginning of his career. Typically I'm out on any TE in the first but with the combination of the late 1st, the strong TE class, and the potential of Dak having a legit guy as his safety net is definitely appealing to me this year. Mayer, Kinkaid, Washinton would all be under heavy consideration for me.

I think slightly better prime Mercedes Lewis is a pretty good comp for Washington. I would expect 50ish catches with 500-700 yards receiving for Washington if he develops as hoped…value added in blocking as well of course.

How quickly people forget Mike Mamula drafted by Eagles at #7 for his workout numbers!!! Have we not learned anything?!

If TE were judged by their workouts then Witten and Ditka would never make HOF.

The point he's making is that some here are drooling over "measurables" of Washington, especially in relation to Mayer.

Washington has more upside but gun to head, if you had to pick which one would last longer in the NFL, I'd pick Mayer.
