It's early and I think Hankins will be around for a bit longer. If I was Dallas, I would re-sign him.

I think Jerry is going to draft a TE or DE in the first round. He has not taken a DT in round 1 since 1991. But Jerry also loves the draft to build his team so maybe he is looking at Mazi Smith or Siaki Ika on Day 2.
Jerry has never taken a DT in the first round. I'm not going to pretend he made that pick in 1991.

He really didn't get OSA Hankins bohanna Ridgeway

I mean give him some credit
Huh?

Hankins was a late addition in the season because they had some depth issues and it cost us pretty much nothing.

Osa was a midround pick in the 3rd. Bohanna and Ridgeway were late round picks.

Sorry, but to me, that's not some sort of impressive investment in the DT position that you think it is. It's what I said from the start - hodge podge/patchwork DTs.

With Quinn here he has a VISION Jerry doesn't
That’s true but he’s been here 2 years and they’ve been doing roughly the same thing. The overall defense has certainly gotten better but that big run stopping DT is a bargain bin after thought and never a priority!

I’m sure the logic is that they don’t want to invest big money or a first round pick in a position that rotates players.

They have indeed recently given it all the resources they are probably ever going to….a 2nd and three 3rds. Problem is none of them made or are making much of an impact.

Now, since they need to retool the offense we may or may not even end up addressing DT in the draft at all…..

And therein lies the big problem to the ‘draft only’ plan….you cannot afford to bust picks the way they have.

Every team has that happen. The difference is other teams make up for it in FA or trades. We use street guys who get exploited by the better coaches in the league.

We were never going to go after Payne or Hargrave or Tomlison. Those guys were always going to be too pricey for Jerry/Stephen. Some more mid-level guys are gone with Cox going back to Philly.

We have heard nothing on Hankins. Where we pick isn't exactly going to likely be teeming with DT prospects unless we take a reach early (for those that will say, relax, we'll fix DT in the draft). So what's the plan? Just sit around and hope to pull a bunch of nobodies and such next week when they are cheap and then throw a later round pick or two at the position?

I had wondered if maybe they were just going to invest in a better MLB than LVE and hope that fixed some of their interior problems but LVE is back and Wagner appears to be a non starter. So it just seems like we are going to run this thing back with a bunch of jabronies at DT. I swear to god, this franchise's handling of the DT position is just so frustrating.
A'Shawn Robinson still there.

I hope Dallas signs Ashawn Robinson, Andrew Billings, and Carlos Watkins. I think you can get them fairly inexpensively.

Short yardage -- Billings and Robinson
Pass downs -- Osa and Watkins
Down 1&2 -- Pick one from each group above and rotate.

Bohanna and Gholston get to back up, fill in for injuries, and Gholston can move outside as well with Watkins when teams decide they need to run at the DE's.

And the saddest part of all is that we got a monstrous sample of what a NT who is just above average can do for a D. First time we've been able to stop the run in the playoffs since when, 09? I know Jerry sees what he wants to see, but geez, how in the world do you miss that?

Hankins played very good and they are gonna sign him. This is also a position that’s pretty deep in the draft.

If Bohana makes this team again, then we have failed once again to address a position that is key to super bowl contention. Bo has shown no signs of being anything more than a journeyman type big guy.

Is it? What I have gives this DT grade a C. Not sure it's deep this year.

It's not a deep draft for the position. There's Carter, then a group of ehh guys like Kancey and Breesen who have red flags.

Bo is now in his 3rd year and not starting, but the #3 1T, so I think you keep him just to see if the light comes on. But if someone else is available in the draft, you definitely don't let him slow down the talent upgrade. For a 2021 6th round pick, I don't expect much, but he is in year 3, so I think it is his make or break year.

I don’t think it’s they ignore it but it’s like an edge rusher or QB. Just really hard to get one
And I think some of our run defense weakness is just scheme. Quinn cares more about going after the QB than stopping the run. When he tried to stop the run we did a nice job. Running QB’s got to us more than a team actually sustaining the run gain. We gave up I think 327 yards to QB’s
He has the entire offseason to figure out how to better defend the read option, think run defense improved when he altered his scheme and the addition of Hankins. Robinson from the Rams is the one I'm keeping an eye on, real good run defender.
