I’d kick the tires on Calais Campbell. He’s mainly been a 3-4 DE, but can play tackle in a 4-3. Should be able to get him on a cheap 2 year deal.

It's not a deep draft for the position. There's Carter, then a group of ehh guys like Kancey and Breesen who have red flags.
That's what I saw. Bunch of slugs and projects.

It blows my mind how after all these years and all these defensive coordinators, that not ONE person has sat and pounded into Jerry the importance of the position. Or, they have, and he is just that clueless.

A couple of people have told me that now, I will have to look and find what I was looking at that made me say that. It will be disappointing if not.
Looks like a bunch of projects after Carter and Mazi. Maybe Benton.

I don't think Jerry listens to anyone.

He has the entire offseason to figure out how to better defend the read option, think run defense improved when he altered his scheme and the addition of Hankins. Robinson from the Rams is the one I'm keeping an eye on, real good run defender.
He’d be a good option and he’s from ft worth so genetically he has to be a cowboys fan lol
Shouldn’t be overly expensive either

Doubt if he's there. He could easily be the BPA w/ our 1st.
DT’s are very coveted
He could go late first
He could be a guy you trade back a bit and get
I don’t know if he will be BPA but probably close

We were never going to go after Payne or Hargrave or Tomlison. Those guys were always going to be too pricey for Jerry/Stephen. Some more mid-level guys are gone with Cox going back to Philly.

We have heard nothing on Hankins. Where we pick isn't exactly going to likely be teeming with DT prospects unless we take a reach early (for those that will say, relax, we'll fix DT in the draft). So what's the plan? Just sit around and hope to pull a bunch of nobodies and such next week when they are cheap and then throw a later round pick or two at the position?

I had wondered if maybe they were just going to invest in a better MLB than LVE and hope that fixed some of their interior problems but LVE is back and Wagner appears to be a non starter. So it just seems like we are going to run this thing back with a bunch of jabronies at DT. I swear to god, this franchise's handling of the DT position is just so frustrating.
No we were never paying 20 plus mil for a DT and etc. It's just day TWO of FA slow down man

- Hankins maybe trying to aim for what is likely to be his last contract, ,, services to the highest bidder ?.

- And Stephen certainly has a price tag on just how little he wants to spend on a 1tech DT.

- Maybe it's a game of cat and mouse negotiation. .i wouldn't be surprised if it's post draft.
You're right Stephen was never gonna go after a high priced FA vet DT.

- We just have to get sheer lucky to stumble upon a draft gem and he rocks the world.
i mean Chris Jones type lottery lucky. And that's just the 3 tech.

- I dunno what and how the club perceives Osa.Diggy Do they envision him as a future star ?
Is he just a decent- serviceable guy ? An above average starter ?
Me myself i don't see anything from Osa that would deter me from drafting another 3 tech DT very high in the draft.

-And i really want to draft another 1 tech to compete with Quinton Bohanna, who hasn't impress me in reg. season play
to make me think he'll be a promising run stuffing enforcer.

OK.

So where are the upgrades at DT coming from? Show me some names.

I'd love to be wrong but I think even deep down, you probably know not to expect much.
I'm not going to give you any names. I have no idea what the FO is planning and talking about behind closed doors.

Did anyone see Gilmore coming? NO. All I'm saying is it's March 16th and the entire premise of this thread is completely ridiculous.

I think Jerry is going to draft a TE or DE in the first round. He has not taken a DT in round 1 since 1991. But Jerry also loves the draft to build his team so maybe he is looking at Mazi Smith or Siaki Ika on Day 2.
Jerry didn’t take a DT in 1991, Jimmy did.

But the last time we did draft a DT in the 1st was 2005 when we took Marcus Spears.

4-3 teams normally load up on the DL, but we tend to wait til the 3rd/4th round and end up with Jags. It’s asinine.

I bet you say this every single year. Only to be let down every single year.

Relax! Still a lot of options.

We know Jerry and Stephen’s recent history with FA and the draft, but I think this year is going to be different. They have restructured a bunch of contracts to give us money to spend in FA, we picked up a top 10 CB for a reasonable contract and Jerry released Zek!

They know we need a run stuffing DT or 2. I think it will happen this year.

Hopefully, we can get Hankins back for a reasonable contract.

Marcus Spears was drafted as a DE and his first position as starter for Dallas was DE. In fact he was listed as a DE his entire career.
