Most complete TE in the draft

I wouldn’t say most complete because he’s not a plus blocker, but he is a really good receiving TE. I’d like a bigger body at that position for us.

Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta was one of the stars of the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. He had a solid time in the 40-yard dash of 4.59 seconds, but he was superb in the field drills. Sources from a number of teams raved about his route-running and how well he performed in the receiving drills. After that workout, one source mentioned to BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1 that they thought LaPorta might go late in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. That led me to reach out to sources from around the league to see if there was a consensus that LaPorta had a shot at being a late first-round pick. Sources from four teams said yes, and sources from two teams said no. It only takes one team to fall in love, meaning LaPorta has first-round potential for the 2023 NFL Draft

for my money it's the mayer of south bend.
michael mayer,notre dame.
please and thank you.

It's definitely Mayer for me, but the more I watch LaPorta the more I think he's underrated. I'd take him over Musgrave all day
Mayer is the most well rounded. I am warming up quickly on LaPorta if they go second round. I think a healthy Kinkaid has a terrific career. Intrigued by Washington but not at 26. Musgrave I am quite leery on, too many games missed in college.

There's so many TEs; legit NFL TEs, it's not even funny.

He’s definitely an interesting prospect. But he’s also definitely a Day 2 of the draft kind of player IMO.

SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS

  • Runs WR routes in addition to TE. His route tree is massive showcasing his football IQ
  • Very reliable target on passing downs. Very rarely drops a pass.
  • Is great using his length to adjust to throws that are either under or overthrown.
  • Great after the catch and frequently takes advantage of mismatches against LBs.
  • Great athletic build for a TE. Expect a high RAS score at the combine
SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES
  • Has a long way to go as a blocker, against an edge rusher he will frequently lose.
  • Currently a liability in run blocking.
  • Due to somewhat limited usage, there is a small sample size of his tape.

SCOUTING REPORT: SUMMARY

Sam LaPorta while having a long way to go as a blocker is an effective first down converter. He will flourish in an air raid offense such as the Chiefs or be underutilized in a run-heavy offense such as the Titans. At his best, he is used to creating mismatches against lbs. At his worst, he is used as a run blocker. He showcases above-average IQ which will translate well as he begins learning from NFL coaches. While he currently lacks in blocking technique, that is easily fixable and he shows great willingness to learn. Being that he is one of the only bright spots in his offense, his stats are not reflective of his true talent.
At his current draft value, consider him great value in the third round and beyond. He’s a reach in draft rounds one and two.
