This offseason does not appear any different on the surface. The Cowboys are Signing their Own. They skipped The 1st week of Free Agency . . . And made a couple Trade for "Big Name" Veterans at or nearing the BiG Three Oh

Yet it is different . . . Those veterans are still playing at an unbelievably high level and were acquired for peanuts. . . And they both appear to be perfect Compliments to the young Nucleus that's set in Place

This trades show that The Cowboys have their Ear to the Ground and where being very Active on The Phones . . . Anyone can sign a Free Agent but The Cowboys put the Work in on those 2 Transactions. . . Bravo . . .

That's when Stephen started Cooking and Had The Texans pick up part of the Tab and then he showed some Genius and freed up some more money . . . I was in shock

All of this Done to set up The Draft to Fall to us

Cowboys always play the Numbers . . .

What position is weak in the Draft? . . . WR . . . Cowboys: Check

What Position is loaded? . . . TE and RB . . . Cowboys: Just happen to "Need One of Those"

Hey Cowboys could yeah use a plug and Play Interior Lineman in case Tyron needs a couple extra weeks off to mend? . . . Cowboys: Yeah there are a couple guys I am eyeing in the 3rd

And The MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION . . . Hey Cowboys How come you have failed to Address The DT position, are you Ever going to? . . . Cowboys: Patience Grass Hopper There are 3 or 4 that will fall into our lap at #26

My prediction is DT, TE, G, RB/QB, QB/RB (4th and 5th Rd are dependent upon the board) . . . rest of draft is best player available . . . I prefer CB and DT and K

Just Add Wagner with the Extra Cap Dollars and we may have to make Room in the Case

Lots of optimism to go around and back to back 12 win seasons plus this off-season and keeping the majority of the team in tact bodes well.

If they can hit on the draft we’re looking at a nice window for this team to have a shot for a couple more years….we still need a playmaker added on offense and some uglies on both sides of the ball…get those 3 in the draft plus some depth and there’s no reason this team should be weaker than last year

Jerry knows hype and sales.
He knows he has to make fans forget about Dak's struggles. He's hemmed into a bad contract, so his only choice is to try and create enough excitement through free agent/trade acquisitions to get fans to buy into the team again.
But the problem remains.

I just started looking into Mocks, Highlight Films and Draft analysis and appears what we need is a strength in this draft

Before the Trades DT was 3rd on my list for #26. I wanted CB or hoped a stud WR would fall in this weak class. Now after see in Kiper's Mock there should be 3 Guys we could use at DT wether that be a 3T or 1T . . . And I would be happy to get any of them (except for the one He actually had us selecting, I would trade down if He were the Target)

As Far as Weapons. . . TE and RB are insanely deep with Play Makers that we are assure to get a Playmaking difference maker at the TE position in the 2nd and there should be an abundance of play making RB in the Middle Rds

I am so psyched for The Draft . . . It os gonna be like Christmas as Will works His Magic and sures up the team

Recent archeological evidence suggests that Atlantis, once the proudest, most ingenious peoples of all human history sunk into the ocean due to two elements:

Whine & Snark. These corroding agents diminish, and belittle all things important.

Just be ready. It's all they have to make themselves significant ... and they won't stop.

This is my team He does not have to make me "Buy" into them . . . I am sitting here observing Football and being thankful

So far so good

Good post, keen thinking, well articulated... except for the misguided Wagner advocacy. :)

We're on the same page, though. Jedi not dark side.

I thought it was my team, too. But Jerry showed me after 13 years of shoving Garret down my throat and then signing Dak to a long term contract that it is his team, and he doesn't care about the fans.

So many fans are loving the Cowboys offseason that it will undoubtedly create some high expectations for next season. Practically everyone hated the Cowboys offseason last year which created low expectations for the season but the team exceeded them. It’s never a good sign when fans get high expectations for the season. That’s usually when the Cowboys disappoint. They always seem to perform better when expectations are low.

OMG, why are cowboys fans so enamoured with former big NFL names? Cooks is on his 5th team. he is 30. if he is so good, why doesn't any of his teams want to keep him. he is not all that. will be on the wrong side of 30.
same with Gallimore. he is on the wrong side of 30.

both perhaps good players in years past, but past their prime and perhaps will take a rapid dive as most players hitting 30 do.

we covered a couple of holes. this team is not there. the DL sucks. I mean sucks. names only cowboys fans love. nobody else. LB group is only Parsons. LVE? 90% of people on this board wanted him gone. and despite the secondary play, who are the safties really? its deep at 2nd level talent. LT is in question. our center still is weak. RT is coming off knee surgery. Pollard had a broken ankle. we signed a RB that runs a 4.7 40.....

I am not impressed.

They've been more aggressive than recent years, but they've not made some splash move. That's okay, but Gilmore and Cooks may end up being what it took to get them.

Time will tell. Gilmore will be 33 in September. Cooks, despite his talent, has bounced around the league. Top end performance by both would be great, but neither are a sure thing at this point in their careers.

The moves do give them more freedom in the draft. They don't have to chase needs at CB and WR, but they shouldn't rule either out if the value is there.

Expectations are still low. Have you seen this place so far this year?
The positivity is only up slightly for now for some. The Cowboys can have a great draft, but if it does not fall the way to some fans on here, any excitement will be dropped to the norm.

The media will be back to its usual self later on. I have not seen much on coverage of any FA moves yet. Other than GMFB a few days ago, did give them some props what they have done so far.
I will wait until after the draft now to form more of an opinion but it will not change my expectation of a SB. They need to get there first and surprise us.

Expectations are always low immediately after a playoff loss, however, if you look around the board the enthusiasm for next season has picked up considerably with some of the offseason moves we’ve made. There’s been at least a couple of threads with fans already claiming we’ve overtaken the Eagles, because of some of our additions and some of their free agent losses. Patrick “no C” Walker on Talkin Cowboys seems to think Philly will struggle to win 10 games next season because of their free agent losses. Everyone seems to be a lot rosier about the Cowboys than they were last year at this time.

I can't at all agree that this offseason doesn't appear different on the surface.

If we were only talking about the moves to re-sign our own players, that would be one thing, but releasing Zeke, trading for Brandin Cooks and Stephen Gilmore, and adding a still young Ronald Jones as a free agent definitely feels different.

And doing all these things early in the free agency period feels different. The Cowboys usually stay passive at the beginning, and then look at moves after the initial dust settles

Yes it is different, I think dan and mike are requesting players, and if affordable, the jones boys are getting the players for them.
They are way more active than recent years.
This will allow more freedom in the draft picks.

Will be interesting to see what positions they go for in the draft.
