I don’t think you do get it because my logic is you have to hang onto a good QB that helps you win games even if they’re not perfect. So what’s your plan at QB to keep the Cowboys making the playoffs and in contention?
Thats always the question and nobody wants to ever hear the answer, because the answer is simple but requires time.
This is a very impatient society and we expect immediate returns and production on investment.
The very simple answer is that you find your franchise QB in the draft, but that should have been done yesterday, not today.
You dont always have to be in the top 4 to find your future franchise QB, we were but blew that pick on a RB.
Why leave yourself totally exposed with Daks rookie contract expiring, not even investing a mid round pick like we did on Dak when Romo was still the starter?
This franchise got what they deserved with having absolutely zero leverage when Daks first contract expired and now we are bent over a barrel and stuck with mediocre
franchise QB production.
Never too late to start I guess, seems as though every time Jerry has been taught every lesson and we all think that he has learned from his mistakes that he still finds a way to prove that he has zero common knowledge how to prepare for top franchise contracts.
Hope we draft another average no name QB in the middle of this draft like we did with Dak back in 2016 in the 4th round.
At least try and have some leverage for the very near future this time aorund.

I would love to have a better QB than Dak but we have to hang onto him until we find one and that’s not going to be easy. We can’t just move on from him like many fans want us to do and start looking for another QB. You move on from the QB you have if you’re not winning games and making the playoffs with them or you find a better option.

Honestly, I didn’t it was too long. My response was to the fans that think there’s a whole slew of QB’s the Cowboys can get their hands on that would be a better option than Dak. Trying to improve on him could make us worse the next several years or more. Just look at Washington. You move on from the QB you have when you have a better option in house. Contrary to what some fans think Cooper Rush is not better than Dak.

Well if you would have taken the moment to read my short post you would understand that we were both in agreement.

I did read the first few lines and could tell we were in agreement, which is why I stopped reading and responded to what a majority of the fans want to do. None of my response had anything to do with your post.

It will be great comedy around here if and when Dak is extended!

It is a possibility but the first 3 round selections in the draft will say a lot about the current mindset of the front office. If they Draft a QB in day 1 or 2 unless Dak wins a Superbowl he will be designated a post June cut Dallas will carry 26M in dead money in each of the following 2 seasons but can absorb it if they go with a rookie QB in 2024.

That isn't what I objected to AT ALL. You're arguing something i never said. I don't think Dak is terrible. I think finding truly ace QB's is difficult and lucky.

My plan would be ...the trenches. Stout o and d line. Stop the run...and be able to run..control clock, TOP...and game flow...keep the defense fresh. (default to pass when necessary...hopefully not often). 1 or two studs at DB.

Some people have concerns we can't do all that with a big QB contract. I dunno.

I do not like proclamations, and it is extremely rare whenever I make them. If the condition is that Jerry Jones drafts a quarterback in the first, second and/or third round either this year or 2024, I say Dak Prescott will start both the 2023 and 2024 regular seasons if healthy.

Jones remains a factor for any roster move. Something more tangible than an incoming rookie quarterback's talent or performance potential must be introduced into the equation before Jones' support of Prescott wavers enough to permit that change at the quarterback position when either season starts. My crystal ball is more cloudy after the start of the regular season next year though, lol.

@zrinkill, bookmark me. :)

From all the off-season moves so far I feel that a Dak extension is a long shot at best.
They have enough now for 1 move decent FA and the new Draft pool unless I missed something here.
Prove it (Please Finally) or lose it season coming up for Mr.Prescott.
if dak had any decent love for the cowboys , and after his weak performance last year, he should give the team a big discount and allow the team to get some talent to win a Super Bowl. Brady did it while being the GOAT . I don't see dak and his agent doing that.

This has been you shtick for the last 4 years . . . As a Dak Fan it is all you have left
Ya, pretty pathetic and they call themselves Cowboy fans?
How the heck do you place a single player over the well-being of the entire franchise you proclaim to be a fan of?
Guess they like those egg-laying playoff games and beating up on dog teams.

I’m no Dak apologist, just providing an honest assessment of our situation. It’s a fact he’s better than what most teams have the position, which is why he’s been our QB since 2016. You have idiots on this board that would rather go with a washed up Matt Ryan or one of the castoffs that are bouncing around the league. Washington has been going through QB hell ever since they allowed Cousins to walk. Now they’re stuck with Jacoby Brissett. If it was up to fans on this board, we would be in the same sinking boat.
