He was wrong.

Tom Landry was worthy before he ever played a down of college or NFL football.

As a 19 year old 2nd Lt. in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Landry was a co-pilot for 20 bombing missions, even having to crash land on one occasion. He joined after his older brother died during a training exercise.

Many don't know that this guy was a physical specimen. He was a 6'2, 195 LB, 1st team All Pro safety for the New York Giants. During his 6th season he became a player/coach. He was then the defensive coordinator for the Giants during the same time that Vince Lombardi was the offensive coordinator for them.

At the beginning of every Cowboys preseason they were required to run a brutal obstacle course called the "Landry Mile". Many future All Pro players couldn't complete it. However, Landry ran the mile with the team every season and completed it. That is leadership.

Landry invented the 4-3 defense, offensive pre-snap movement, passing from the shotgun, the coaching position of Quality Control, and much much more.

If there were any sense of justice in Jerry Jones's heart then the Cowboys would be playing in Landry Stadium.

Not only did Thomas Wade Landry serve his country, helped create the Dallas Cowboys and turn them into forever America's Team, he also helped put his hometown, Mission, Texas, and area of the Rio Grande Valley on the map. Thank you for your service, sacrifice and hard work, Coach Landry!

Nice to go back to a time when we really were the Dallas Cowboys led by Tom Landry a man who represented everything good in life and sports.

We were spoiled back then what we wouldn't give as fans to have that time back the confidence that Tom Landry inspired in all of us the faith that you had that we were never out of it.

The commitment to excellence was never compromised as it is today.

Tom Landry knew one way to lead a football team the right way.

It's been a minute since Coach Landry was roaming the sidelines. But when he did he always gave me confidence to have the right game plan and his players very prepared to face that weeks opponent. He was a hero for his time sacrificing for his country. Miss coach a bunch all these years later.
