Is Avila going to be the pick in the 1st?

There was a lot of smoke around Tyler Smith and Dallas last year.....starting to get that same sense with Avila.

I liked the potential of Smith last year but felt it might be a reach in the 1st (I was wrong of course)
Avila is a more finished product but in the 1st he seems like a reach, would prefer a trade down to early 2nd if possible....however I wouldn't hate the pick as he would be a welcomed addition.

Tyler Smith was my favorite player in the entire draft last year.

This year Steve Avila is my favorite interior OLineman in the draft.

A pretty big one too considering he’s in the 40s on consensus boards and plays a lower value position.

And you weren’t wrong on Smith. He was also graded in the 40s on consensus boards. He showed some big time flashes but also played like a small school 2nd rounder at times with the sacks / pressures given up, penalties and low pass pro win rate.

He’s OG1 and worth the 26th pick, IMO. Of course it would be best to get him in a trade down.

IF one of the top TE's are not available that would be my way to go as well.

There are no DTs that will be available to us at that point worth a first; and honestly I don't think any WRs in this draft are worth a first.

What smoke was there around Smith pre-draft last year? I don't recall any??

Links?

I don't have links off without searching - but recall there being plenty of reports that Dallas loved Tyler Smith
Right on. I just don't recall any buzz about Smith. I think that's part of the shock most fans had with the pick. But I don't get into the draft like I used to 5 years ago or better.

One is a future Tackle, the other a future Guard, big difference.

I do not see what you all see in Avila.

Good not great.

Top 50 guy buy way closer to 50, than 26.

Is is a Fort Worth thing?

Takes way too many plays off for me.

It was closer to the draft, probably a week out. Don't think we heard anything about him at this time last year

I like Avila a lot but he is a 2nd Rd guy.i can easily think of 26 guys i would rather draft.

I believe the buzz about Tyler Smith picked up a day or two before the draft. I don't ppl hyping him to Dallas like Avila because most of us were kinda surprised TS was the guy...no one would be surprised by Avila at this point.

I feel the same about the player, good, but not elite. Think everyone views starting guard as a priority need and wants to fill it as soon as possible. Same goes with people who want Mazi Smith at 26. Don't reach to fill a need, that's what happened when we took Taco.

He may be OG1 but that doesn’t mean he warrants the pick. He’s not a consensus 1st round pick.

Itd be the definition of a reach.

I think some fans latch on to a position or 2 and pump up whatever player they like instead of looking big picture and the entire contract of the guys.

Everything I read about Avila is he struggles with lateral movement. Especially with speed rushers. This speaks to the passing game and why this team fails.

I admit I have a pet cat now. But I think I can make a case for drafting a guard with 26 to shore up the offensive line. I am not a proponent of this line as it stands now.

Tyler Smith was a homerun pick.
