Fast Forward: Time to Draft a Kicker

just doing a quick search looks like from 2013-2020 there were 15 total kickers taken in the draft and 14 of them lasted two or less teams with a season...

Doesnt seem like drafting a kicker is the way to solve it honestly....not to say we shouldn't bring some young guys in but i wouldnt waste any type of draft capital on a kicker.

They drafted only two kickers in the Jerry Jones era — Nick Folk in 2007 and David Buehler in 2011 — neither delivering the goods (likely making Jones gun shy going forward)
That isn't a reason to be gun shy considering it's been 12 years ago already. Go see a doctor if need be.

When we are in the clock, if one of the 3 top prospects is the highest guy on your board then draft him. Otherwise be aggressive in UDFA.

Jebus this isn't that hard to figure out.

This is not a great year for draftable kickers. Michigan and Maryland kids maybe?

I know if I was Will McClay, I'd have three or four of them lined up and be calling the second I am able to sign undrafted free agents. Get competition in here.

Broaddus has hinted a few times that Fassel has his eyes on a few guys. That does not necesarily mean rookies.

There aren’t too many great kickers in this draft.
I’m sure the team will find competition from somewhere, but there just doesn’t seem to be a “sure thing” K prospect in this draft. The top rated Ks in this draft are making around 80-82% of their FGs.

Find a proven vet is ideal. May not be an option at this point though
There is no one on the roster who makes me feel comfortable and drafting a kicker has a very low success rate

We sure need one
These guys seem so hard to scout though
yeah, after last season when Dallas got the TT kicker who i thought would be the one....and wound up stinking the joint. Kickers are a different breed and you just never know about these guys. They all have strong legs, the mental part is what you are judging. Makes it difficult. I would certainly select one of the top kickers in the later rounds and take my chances. Not wait for the UDFA.

We all know by now one of the kickers I'd bring to camp.

Definitely would give Moody or Ryland a shot. I have no problem with spending a later-round choice on a kicker. If you hit, you've solved the position for at least four years and possibly much longer than that.

I'd also immediately call the best UDFA after the draft and say, "Look, we drafted a kicker because we desperately need to find one. You could step in, win the job and be that guy."

When you draft somebody doesn't their rookie contract have some gauranties?

Don’t most drafts go with only one or two kickers being drafted?

Seems like a reach in any draft unless there’s some phenom.

I hope someone is keeping track of when it'll be time to draft a long snapper too.

This team sorely needs to correct their need of a dependable kicker.

We thought Maher had it under control but were fooled.

There's bound to be somebody available!

Drafted kickers don't seem any more dependable than rookie free agents.

Since 2000, there have been 76 kickers who have at least 100 attempts. Only 32 of them were one of the 48 drafted.
