Dallas Cowboys 5th round picks

Bland was a great find and steal. Same look for Clark, but he was injured and dropped. At least this time they waited instead of using a 2nd round Pick.

Jury still out on Waletzgo, and of course some rue getting rid of Ridgeway, but if he was still here would call him a Jag.
we know that routine all too well.
This is Fehoko make or break season.

The rest just plain sucked. Randle showed a little bit at first.

Who can forget Michael and Joe Jackson in the same draft. Lol For those who don’t get it Michael Jackson’s father is named Joe. I remember a lot of fans joking about it at the time. Both were forgettable players.

Mike Jackson started every game for Seattle last year and is pretty good now lol
Unfortunately he was a late bloomer.
He showed some decent rough coverage skills, but was too hands on and grabby. I think some depth they had here, if you want to call it that cost him more time here than he should have had.

He became better after a few years. I think he bounced around to several teams.
Not sure I would say he is pretty good. But we could use him for depth and after Brown was injured, possibly. As probably better than Joseph at this point.

Randle was a decent COP for Murray. Had a great 2014.

The Cowboys cut him during training camp his rookie year and he’s played for three teams. He has one career INT and that came last season.

See, now how do you complain about taking a McPherson or Bass in that round considering the impact they could have?

5th round picks are largely a dart throw. I bet most teams don't hit on many of them.
This.

Gotta compare Cowboy 5th rounders to the 5th rounders in the rest of the league.
The *entire* population, not just the 5th round picks that hit and therefore come to mind.

I think I have seen draft round analyses before, and my recollection is that 5th rounders *rarely* produce much in the league.

2022 saved our history for 5ths. Man we struggled beforehand.

I created a program that measures the productivity of each draft pick in order to rank that team's success in drafting.

Each draft pick is awarded points based on games played, games started and pro bowls. They get a point for each game they participate in. They get an additional point if they started. They get 12 points for each season in which they made the Pro Bowl.

It doesn't matter whether or not they play for teh team that draftewd them. The point of teh evaluation is to determine the ability to draft productive players and not their ability to retain them.

Over the most recent 10 combined seasons, the Cowboys were rated 4th in drafting, behind only the Ravens, Packers, and Rams.

When you look specifically at the 4th round from 2013 to 2022, the Cowboys are ranked 3rd in the league using my measurement system. They have three players with at least one Pro Bowl and they are all currently Cowboys offensive starters, quite an accomplishment for a group of 4th round picks.

The 2nd round used to be the Cowboys worse but that is no longer the case. The Cowboys are ranked dead last in the productivity of their 5th round picks over the past ten seasons.

The Cowboys best round is the 1st where they are in 2nd place behind only the Rams.

5th rounders have been used better recently, they have value.
Dont mind giving a few away in trades considering what we have now in vet return value.
They have been letting McClay play recently, there is mutual trust esp between Q and McClay, but the FO has their ears open now when it comes to listening to the real GM behind the curtain.
The better you draft the better your chances of gaining future comp picks just due to the nature of the beast, you can only retain so much talent, because you can only maintain so many contracts within the cap.
