I knew for some time I was going to get a new, new to me, guitar.
I narrowed it down to a PRS or a Gibson. I liked the dark night strat and tele by fender but not as much as the others.

I had a pretty broad price range at one point so I could get a new PRS 10 top or similar or a Gibson Les Paul standard.

However after much looking I decided to save some money towards home improvement things.

So I started looking at used guitars on Reverb and Guitar Center.

Quite a few options and it seemed I narrowed it down to a Gibson.

Although I initially wanted a Les Paul standard with the 60s neck. I started looking at SGs more.

I did not want the cherry or heritage color ones.
I liked the ebony or white ones but they did not look right with rosewood fretboards.

I wanted a SG with a ebony fretboard and to not just a standard

Turns out I started finding some Gibson SG Supreme models that came out some years ago but are no longer made
They have ebony fretboards like I wanted. Bound Headstock like I wanted, custom shop diamond logo on the head stock and mother of pearl inlays but this one with the split diamonds.
They also come with out the pick guards and they normally will have some flame tops in various colors.
I actually liked the blueberry color but could not find one that had a good price or from someone selling it that felt like a scammer.

I found a couple of used ones on Guitar Center site. They are good about plenty of pics and details for new guitars...not so much about older used ones.

So I called about one and asked a couple questions and decided to buy it even if I just seen some pictures that were not well lit and a little hard to see.

It is a 2005 Gibson SG Supreme with the lavaburst finish and blacked out hardware. For a guitar that is couple years shy of 20 years old it is in excellent shape. No buckle rash on the back. A few very tiny dings on the front and a little wear on the neck from sitting on a guitar hanger.
Came with a gibson usa case although you can tell the case took a good deal of beating protecting the guitar over the years. No case candy other than some strap locks.

I bought some cheap studio head phones, a Nux Mighty Amp plug in and some new strings.

Here is a video of a 2008 one. Same finish, same blacked out hardware but mine is in better shape. Also that is not me in the video.

Nice. Whenever I see an SG, I think of Leslie West of Mountain fame. But I have never seen one with that finish before. Very nice looking and unique. My brother had an SG, it was solid burgundy which was pretty common. He loved it.

Enjoy it!

I just started using Reverb to sell some stuff. It is a very cool site with a tremendous selection. I just wonder how much of it is legitimate. Scammers are all over that site.

Always makes me think of Angus. Love SGs.

Since you are into guitars and their history, you should check out a great documentary called Songbirds. It’s about a now closed guitar museum in Chattanooga.

Best guitar I've ever owned was a PRS McCarthy.

I like that SG tho.

My first real guitar was an SG clone.

One of the first things I did was remove the pick guard .

I digging the Lavaburst color choice. Very Nice.
