1st Round Thread

if they wanted Mazi they could have traded back and picked him in the 40's at least.

I like this pick.

Improving the DL or OL in the first round is always a good idea.

I like this..I didn't love the options on the board and Mazi should help our defense a lot, as a starter right out the bat.

We've always bemoaned the Cowboys downplaying the importance of DT, then we finally draft one and it's Armageddon.
Don’t waste your breath dude.

This might be a product of us having to trade for Hankins last year. That trade illustrated that we were not good enough on the inside. I guess now Quinn will play Mazi and Hankins on the interior in our pseudo-five-man fronts on early downs.
I agree, I just wasn’t prepared for that pick. He will probably keep LVE cleaner which is also a plus.

Like I said, I trust Quinn to get something out of him. If he can find a way to be more than a 2 down player, I’m fine with it.

You think. That does not make it true. Might have gone the next pick since it was a DT.

I guess that's the disappointment. He's a two-down player right now. Of course, we go NASCAR on third down. However, if he sets up second-and-long and third-and-long and we can bring in the pass rushers, we're a better team for it. We had to adjust our defense some late in the year because the run defense wasn't working. That took away from our pass rush. Maybe Mazi keeps us from having to do that.

Harrison is an Offensive Tackle, what are you drinking
Oh, I thought I saw DT. Draft Show guys just said Kansas City was trying to trade up and take Mazi. Called back and said that was their guy. Don't know the validity of that, but that's what they are saying.

good one. I'll get over it, but my dream pick this draft was Joey Porter Jr. I don't hate Mazi and I am glad they addressed 1-Tech finally.
Obviously, not the same kind of player as Jalen Carter, but will be interesting to compare their performances since both us and Philly took DTs. Who knows, Mazi could end up with more sacks with the way we stunt our linemen.

should have traded back and got their 3rd

Really still just surprised we drafted a DT, especially an NT type that Dallas usually waits to draft until late. I thought we'd be all in on offense in this draft. I do absolutely like this move better than if we had taken LaPorta because of the depth in this draft at TE.

Passing on Porter doesn't bother me because we traded for a starting corner. We have Diggs, Gilmore, Bland and Lewis as our four deep.

Nolan Smith is tougher to pass on, but we just drafted a DE last year in Williams and Parsons is our top pass rusher. End isn't a bad position for us.

DT is a weaker position for us than both. Don't know if Mazi was what we needed since we have Hankins, but getting the best run-defending DT in this draft is not a bad thing.

Never thought Mazi Smith would go 1st round.

Here’s what I did get right…Joey Porter has been overrated. The Cowboys like Kincaid over Mayers.
