Obviously, not the same kind of player as Jalen Carter, but will be interesting to compare their performances since both us and Philly took DTs. Who knows, Mazi could end up with more sacks with the way we stunt our linemen.
Not gonna hold my breath on that one. Didn’t he start like 30 games in college and muster a half sack?

Never thought Mazi Smith would go 1st round.

Here’s what I did get right…Joey Porter has been overrated. The Cowboys like Kincaid over Mayers.
Maybe on Kincaid. There's no proof they were going to take him, and the Draft Show guys say they like LaPorta better than both of them.

Oh, I thought I saw DT. Draft Show guys just said Kansas City was trying to trade up and take Mazi. Called back and said that was their guy. Don't know the validity of that, but that's what they are saying.
Wouldn’t be surprising. This board always talks about reaching for players but teams don’t draft based on internet boards.

I do wonder if Buffalo had intel that Dallas was going for Kincaid.

Really still just surprised we drafted a DT, especially an NT type that Dallas usually waits to draft until late. I thought we'd be all in on offense in this draft. I do absolutely like this move better than if we had taken LaPorta because of the depth in this draft at TE.

Passing on Porter doesn't bother me because we traded for a starting corner. We have Diggs, Gilmore, Bland and Lewis as our four deep.

Nolan Smith is tougher to pass on, but we just drafted a DE last year in Williams and Parsons is our top pass rusher. End isn't a bad position for us.

DT is a weaker position for us than both. Don't know if Mazi was what we needed since we have Hankins, but getting the best run-defending DT in this draft is not a bad thing.
Be one of the smart people and judge the player after he gets on the field. I know the experts here see a 2 down player but I guarentee that’s not how this team sees it.

Carter had six total. So it's not like he set the bar real high. But no, I don't actually expect Mazi to have more sacks than Carter. Could have more impact for us than Carter will for the Eagles, since Carter is replacing an 11-sack DT while Mazi is replacing a bargain-bin DT in Carlos Watkins.

Not sure, but they either clearly thought we were or had intel that someone else was trying to trade up for him.

That's crazy cause I just watched his highlights and it showed at least two sacks, but more impressive was his pursuit of the ball carrier, even while engaged with an offensive lineman

I always wait to judge because a) draft gurus get value wrong every year and b) every year we see players who are expected to be good fail and players who aren't succeed.

I think Mazi is a solid pick because it's pretty much guaranteed that he's going to help our run defense. If he can also push the pocket and get some pressure, that's gravy. Whether he should have been taken at 26, I don't know. But that's what the team did, so now we'll hope for the best.

Lol…I assume this is directed at me since I am the only one that said anything about 2 downs. It’s ok to be disappointed with a pick. Not everyone can be one of the smart people. And I said I was fine with the pick if Quinn can get more out of him than 2 downs.

The draft played out poorly for this team. I think they wanted a player on offense that could be a difference maker. They were all gone. I‘m a fan of Smith. I just thought he would go probably in the early 2nd round. Smith does possess the traits of a special player. It‘s up to the staff to bring it out of him.

If Archer's names to watch info was correct, though, the only offensive players listed were Wright and the tight ends (most of whom we passed on for Smith). Now, maybe we didn't expect other players like the top WRs to fall (which they didn't), but seems like we may have been pretty locked in on Mazi.

Not gonna lie, I did find one site that credited him with a whole sack but not seeing more than 1.

We will see that Smith was very high on our draft broad. Probably carried a 1st round grade. This is all about the upside. He can be a special player. And he will get every opportunity here.

Not sure about first-round grade since we only had 16 to 18 of those, but possibly all of those guys were gone. Maybe not Nolan Smith, but I think the team was wary of him because of size and injury.

Actually wasn’t directed to you, just a state ent on how folks here in general react after the pick they don‘t like.
