every team has holes, even Super Bowl winners. You can mask a lot of that with a top 5 qb. This team has all the pieces to get there but qb play holds us back.

Come on... the Cowboys have spent the last 27 years learning how to social distance themselves from the Superbowl and they have gotten very good at it. Now you want them to win it? That goes against everything they have did over the last quarter century.

1. Qualify for the playoffs in the regular season.
2. Win in the wildcard round
3. Win in the divisional round.
4. Win the conference championship game.
5. Win the Super Bowl.

it is more than 4 things lol.
For a team any team to get to a SB they have to do many things consistently.
They have to play their best in playoffs, not so so.
They have to be well coached.

Don't allow a Philadelphia defense that lost their starting duo of linebackers, an interior defensive lineman, and both starting safeties to stop the Cowboys offense.

The Dallas offensive line needs to keep growing for when the team does lose Smith.

Outside of Parsons, the best athletes for the Dallas Cowboys are arguably in the defensive backfield.

Diggs, Gilmore, Bland, and the trio of Malik Hooker, Jayron Kearse, and Donovan Wilson.

Those last three names make a huge difference for the defense.

Now mix that with the Eagles 1st down run percentage of 43.82% last season.

Dallas coaches know that number, so Smith and Hankins being on this roster is (relevant.)

The team will attempt to fill a hole in their defense and put teams in less advantageous positions on 2nd and 3rd downs.

Philadelphia should find it considerably harder this season, to beat Dallas.

The Big Nickel is the creation of Quinn. It relies upon very fast play and contact hunters behind the line of scrimmage.

The Cowboys have accumulated a safety unit over the past three seasons that are perfect for 60% of the plays while this defense is on the field. This includes Malik Hooker, Jayron Kearse, and Donovan Wilson and then added Markquese Bell in 2022 and this year drafted DeMarvion Overshown. That is a strong remake with good depth as well.

Bigger and faster was correct.

This is interesting as well:

FRISCO, Texas — Quiet as it might be kept, the Dallas Cowboys aren't only arguably the best in the league at draft success, but also in their ability to find muddied diamonds in undrafted free agency. From Terence Steele to Peyton Hendershot and others in-between, the club's hit rate on Day 4 is by far better than most, and they're hoping Isaiah Land can add to that tally.

Land hails from Florida A&M University, a school that's beginning to win the eye of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and the Cowboys' scouting department as of late — safety Markquese Bell having made his way to Dallas in 2022 by way of FAMU.

He had over 20 sacks and really lit it up. Who is this guy?

It's not difficult to ascertain exactly why Quinn's eyes turned to hearts when looking at Land's body of work. In 2021, he racked up 19 sacks en route to winning the Buck Buchanan Award that season, an honor bestowed upon the best FCS defensive player of the year. That same season, the 6-foot-4, 236-pound pass rusher was named First-Team FCS All-American and SWAC Defensive Player of the Year, also a two-time First-Team All-SWAC talent.

Me, I'm thinking of another John Randle in the making of an impact player from 'no where.'

Agree 100% but more specifically, I’d like to see consistency that hasn’t been here

Last season was a roller coaster of the offense and defense to where one could almost predict that they would excel one week and look flat the next
cannnot disagree

1. Give Dak Prescott every opportunity to succeed

He's had 7 seasons to succeed. How much more is he supposed to be given. If he hasn't figured it out by now he never will.

  • His biggest strength is also the most required trait needed to play linebacker, instincts. Plenty of that on tape showing him constantly flowing to the ball.
  • Very sudden and quick with a great burst.
  • High level of reaction.
  • Has a good mix of pass rush moves and able to use his hands to fight off blocks.
  • Good pursuit to the ball with excellent speed to chase.
  • High motor player and always giving high effort on every play.
  • Very natural bend around the edge.

That said, he also joins an already loaded Cowboys pass rush and will need to find a way to carve his way onto the roster, but the potential is there, and Quinn knows it; and he's willing to allow some time for it to flesh itself out in Land.

"He's somebody that I'm excited to see, and there is no timeline on that," said Quinn of Land's ceiling. "Development takes time. You're not going to get there in one or two days. We're going to be in this for the long haul and see what they can do. And not every person that you train at two spots works out that way.

For the Cowboys to get back to a Super Bowl they’re going to have to figure out how to get it going on both sides of the ball. All 5 of the Cowboys championship teams had a great offense and a great defense. They could run the ball consistently, stop the run and get after the QB. The problem we’ve seen the past couple of decades, is if one side of the ball is playing at a high-level the other side of the ball isn’t as good. Early last season our defense was playing great, but our offense wasn’t clicking. Once Dak returned and our offense started to click our defense/pass rush began to regress. Our championship teams weren’t losing the battle in the trenches. We had great run stopping defenses that forced teams to have to throw the ball and we feasted on the opposing QB. The Cowboys will never become a great team if they can’t stop the run consistently and they can’t run the ball consistently. They have to be able to impose their will on both sides of the ball. They have to get better as we approach December instead of sputtering out. The Cowboys still have a ways to go.

As to interior defensive tackles:

2020 and 2021 they used three third-rounders to take Neville Gallimore, Osa Odighizuwa, and Chauncey Golston (although Golston was a defensive end to begin with), all currently 3T defenders. They are paired with Johnathan Hankins, Mazi Smith, and Quinton Bohanna
