I also don’t understand running the ball too much in this situation and then having the QB throw low percentage passes on gotta have it 4th and 4.

Run a slant. Run a rub route. Something. Give him a relatively easy throw.

And he completed it. The WR had it but it looks like he hurt himself going down and it came out because of that.
