A few short months ago posters on this forum were calling for a replacement at RT. Steele struggled at times. But with the departure of Tyler Biadasz and Tyron Smith the questions becomes "What now?" Do the Cowboys need three new OL players or just two? Has Steele became a strength rather than a weakness?
 
Steele was never great in pass protection. But he was one of the better run blockers on the OL when he was healthy. If he regains that ability at least he can help improve the running game, if we ever get a RB. If he does not improve the Cowboys will have overpaid another player they will probably have to cut at some point to make CAP space.

What now? Now he spends the entire off season getting his knee completely healthy and ready for 2024. Steele struggled because of his knee.

Biadasz and Tyron have nothing to do with Steele. He's the starting ROT.

Exactly, he has the entire off season to get his knee fully healthy. He played better as the year went on. I am not worried about Steel. However, LT and center position are concerns.

Posters were also saying how the Cowboys should let Tyron walk. Now they have and those same people are whining about letting Tyron walk.

It seems the FO is affording Steele time that they refused
to allow for Gallup despite having the same injury...smh
 
Not worried about Steele. He is not great but he is solid. That’s all you really need in a right tackle
 
Can he play guard. Feet too slow and he looked terrible last year at Tackle.
 
Steele had a handful of poor performances last season. Probably the weakest link on the O line. To be honest here I was never sold on the guy. He never could push L Collins for the starting RT position. Then things got crazy last off season. The Cowboys chose to give him a nice contract even though he was coming off a serious leg injury. I believe they should have spent that money elsewhere on a health replacement. But Jones and Son chose to resign Steele. Seems like Jerry and Stevie are really fond of guys with serious limps.
 
Even pre-injury, he was average. So...hopefully he can get back to being average.
