Lot of off-season debate about replacing Armstrong and Fowler sack production. Then the loss of Williams seemed to be another blow. How were the Cowboys going to generate a complimentary pass rush?

It was great to see Lawrence get home twice, but Sunday was a reminder that Zims D will bring pressure from many different spots. In 1 game the Cowboys got twice the sack production from a non-dlinemen not named Parsons vs all of the 2023 regular season. Kearse led the other positional groups with 1.5 last year. That seems almost unbelievable, but true. Kendricks and Overshown combined for 3 on Sunday.

Bottom line, a healthy pass rush comes from multiple positional groups and keeps an offense guessing. If you're too predictable on where your rush is coming from its easier to neutralize. Let's keep it rolling!

True, but it is still encouraging to see. Even when Watson ran out of the pocket, a defensive player was there. And to see Overshown run him down for a sack was great.

This should be encouraging to the players as well. As when going against a mobile QB such as Hurts, if need to contain him even to shorter gains.
I can see Overshown used as a spy type player against Hurts, if need be.

I haven't rewatched the game yet. But it looked like Parsons was the only one creating havoc as far as getting to the QB. I'm okay with lower sack totals long as we shut down the run. Which I think we're going to do this year with Zim's defensive schemes. But off the top of my head, we did end up getting 6 sacks? It did seem like Watson had a lot of time before it all broke down. Credit to our DB's, or maybe just poor play by Watson, or both. I'm a homer so I'll go with the former. We're off to a great start on both sides of the ball, including ST's.

What I liked about the pass rush yesterday was that the DL kept the middle clogged so Watson cannot escape up the middle. The DTs made Watson run side ways which allowed Overshown, Kendricks and fast defense to run him down.

All of this sounds beautiful, but what happens when we're ON the QB, right near him, and CAN"T actually bring him down to the ground, and he gets away to run away or is able to step up and make clear viewed passes????

The big thing to keep an eye on moving forward is 1st down success, as that is key to letting that pass rush fly on later downs. The Cowboys went through funks defensively last year when they consistently gave up 5 yards on the ground on 1st down. The negative plays this week happened because Ford/Strong were mostly held in check before Cleveland fell behind big and was forced to air it out. The major damage came on downs with distances needed of at least 6 yards.

2nd and 10 - DLaw
3rd and 11 - DLaw
4th and 6 - Overshown
1st and 10 - Sort of a sack, it went for 0 yards, Kendricks
3rd and 10 - Parsons
1st and 20 - Parsons

Interceptions

2nd and 14 (Kendricks)
2nd and 8 (Diggs)

This team is clearly talented enough to keep the sack production up, but it starts with winning 1st down and forcing teams into obvious passing situations where they need those 3 second plus routes. This is where we should be optimistic as fans of what this team can do, but need to understand that we need to see this defense perform in a tighter game where offenses wont be one dimensional in the 2nd half.

This is 100% true and something I am looking forward to in order to truly analyze this pass rush. I believe it is legit and another factor is our secondary. It is their coverage that will allow the Pass Rush to get home

I love the idea of O cleaning up after the QB breaks the pocket. His acceleration is next level. Add in the football awareness and intelligence of Kendricks and this Defense has been elevated to a whole new level.

Last year when the QB broke the pocket there was no one there to shut them down. Zimmer's scheme and the players added really make it Dynamic

He creates havoc because he's a good athlete, but he also creates havoc because others are taking up blocks....that alleviates the double teams. Hopefully, they can keep that up. Parsons was double teamed too much last year.

I said this before the season started everyone was worried about defensive ends where's our pass rush it's called outside linebackers for one technically Micah Parsons and Overshown are outside linebackers who can do a lot of the same thing, and in Mike zimmer's defense this is not Dan Quinn's relying on outside speed and NASCAR packages to get pass rush...

He brings it from everyone, so we got 3 sacks from Overshown and Kendricks ,2 new players added to this defense that weren't here last year on the team... That's how you bring pressure from everywhere not just relying on the 2 outside guys to get all the pressures and sacks... And by the way the two guys you mentioned I find it hilarious that so many people said they were going to be hard to replace how so not one of them got a sack with Washington not one of them by the way they were our backups right we're worried about our pass rush when we return our starters and Washington goes and plucks our backups and makes them starters and somehow nobody sees irony and that that they're using backups but everyone was worrying about irony in that that they're using backups but everyone was worrying about us..

So if you look at my old post and I said everyone is overreacting to calling this off season historically bad they're also overreacting to our running back room because I think they'll be effective enough and they were and I think it'll even get better once Mike McCarthy gets a good rhythm on who to use and who to bring off the bench pretty much starting three rookies playing two other rookies I know this is just for one game but we tried to tell people that this offseason was not as bad as people are gonna put the tag on it again it'd be wrong again...

Yes our front office goes in the bargain basements and bring in guys like Phillips and Joseph but they say kendricks was a bargain bin no he wasn't he was wanted by San Francisco for a reason if he stays healthy he's basically replacing Sean Lee he's better that LVE.. So all that negativity for months that we had to hear leading up to the game one most of those narratives were all wrong and yes there's gonna be games where we probably not going to have a lot of sacks but I'm going to tell you this Mike Zimmer his defense also covers up when you lose 1 corner you know like we couldn't do with Dan Quinn and the Green Bay game we had to change our whole defense and it got slaughtered he can play 2 deep and he can get help from both safeties and he uses the safeties to help his corners and plays more zone when needed.

So I'm glad that most of us in here just says calm down don't worry that Mike Zimmer will figure out a way to create defense and he will create pressure and he will find a way to help the weak spots on this defense it won't look as great it might not be like super pretty all the time and playing hero ball but he'll find a way to get them lined up right are they're gonna get kicked in the balls on the sideline until they get it right... And I also like the fact that he's on the sideline in these guys ears and running over to him and talking to him and he's not up there with his headset on with all the communication going through two other people before it got to Quinn and then back down to the players..

Pass rush without blitzing is paramount, just look at KC, and the Rams before them.

The middle must get home, or at least make the QB uncomfortable.

How do you not even remember from watching the game Overshown in kendricks were straight up beasts.. They got 3 sacks these are two dudes that weren't even on the team last year overtones every bit they athlete has the same motor both outside linebackers and yes I'm talking about he's very similar to Parsons... How did you fail to see that did you not even watch the same game that first half these dudes were all over the place and they made that quarterback see ghosts both pressures and out in coverage.. Ohh by the way once again tank gets no credit are you kidding me you call that not havoc the man's always making sure his side of the field that edge either gets set he plays the run or he gets a lot of pressures.. He was also top 10 and pressures from the defensive ends last year.. I believe we were the only team with two dudes that could be called defensive ends that were in the top 10 and pressures we're on the same team tank is so underestimated it's insane but the fact that you didn't see those other guys creating havoc... They were making the office see ghost they were jumping they didn't know where it was coming from they were confused... This was not the Micah Parsons show this was all of them playing and doing their part...

Havoc means creating widespread destruction. I didn't say Parsons was the only person who had a good game. Parsons was in Watson's head just about all game long. Kept forcing him out of the pocket and that let his teammates eat. He drew a false start. NOWHERE did I say that it was a Micah Parson's show.

BTW GREAT OFFSEASON MOVES!!!! Not a historically bad offseason,

the draft, the players coming off acls ie Diggs and Overshown ,Plus the adds of Philps, Joseph, Kendricks ALL played WELL better than expected and as usual this places 3 months of saying how bad it was , WERE FALT wrong..you know like the last 3 seasons being all 12 win seasons, 2 division titles and 3 Straight playoff appearances. Yup fans like you only see what you want to see, you hate jerry so you hope for failure.. nope!! not letting you off the hook.

they may not be aggressive big FA moves but they replaced our losses this offseason and might have got better..at least it was a neutral bunch of moves.

I mean you want more proof they just put out the statistics from week 1 and the Dallas Cowboys are #1 in pressures they had 40 pressures in game one you think those all came from parsons? Literally if you watch the game with your eyes wide open which I don't think you can cause again stay out of the smoke you'd see that there was other players wreaking havoc which doesn't have to mean hurting people or getting double teams but when three of your sacks come from other places besides Parsons and a lot of pressure has come from four other people on the team I'd say that the defense deserves the credit not Parsons only... By the way again if you're not watching Overshown has the same skill set and if he can stay healthy we have another Parsons type player with a high motor and lots of speed and it's gonna be hard to block one-on-one This is why we were all upset he got hurt last year I'm a Longhorns fan this dude can be a game wrecker as well and now you have a middle linebacker wearing a green dot and kendricks...

I don't know what "veg" is or means, so explain. If it means I'm a stoner, I haven't been one in over 25 years. Though I did get lost in a Sinaloa jungle when I was in the 6th grade back in 1979 and wasn't found until 1993. This could explain a lot of things. Lol
