You have a team struggling to score points and you take a 64-yard field goal off the board.

What was McCarthy expecting? They would get closer to try another shorter field goal?

It was the right move. Going for it on 4th down at the 5 was dumb. Fake punt early in the game was stupid. But any team would have accepted the personal foul.

I agree. No one would have taken the 3 points here.

I think you get a 15 yard penalty and an automatic first down you have to take the penalty and a fresh set of downs. There is a chance they score a TD, but you have to think you can at least get the FG back if you can't get the TD. I mean you have the best kicker in the league you can't lack the confidence to use him. But if you use that thinking, then when it is 4th and 5 you have to kick the FG.

You would normally if you had your starting quarterback and had an offense that could put up points by scoring touchdowns.

The Cowboys though were struggling for points and they had 3 already on the board.

They gambled the 3 for an extra 4 using an anemic offense that's realistic best-case scenario would have been yet-another-field-goal attempt that might be missed or blocked.

Dallas shouldn't punt or kick a FG the rest of the year. They should go for it on fourth down no matter what, honestly. They can't stop anyone so they might as well try to score as many TDs as possible.

Is there a difference between 34-10 and 34-7? Be exciting the rest of the year. While we're at it, they should always go for 2. They could have lost that game 34-8.

Never, take points off the board. That’s my personal opinion.

I felt the same way. My thought was because of who you have currently on the field. The odds of this offensive group on the field committing a mistake or failing to execute a play (4th down in this instance) are currently at their highest. I had no faith they could continue on after the penalty and get a touchdown. Maybe a shorter FG yes but I felt pretty solid the unit would walk away with a shorter FG or nothing. What a mess things are. I'm resigned to trying to watch player development for a future that is restricted by the GM.
