Matt Stafford as QB when he was leaving Detroit 4 years ago , instead of saddling the team with a mediocre and absolutely expensive and injury prone Dak .

stafford signed for 25 mil with the rams and got them to a super bowl . Stafford is still playing at a high level and is much more accurate than Dak, and more durable .

simply saying , what if the cowboys had a real GM who as not crazy to pay Dak 60 mil a year for the next 4 years….

You mean what it Jerry traded to the Lions received Dak, a 2021 third-round pick, and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023
And Jared Goff. Not sure how Jerry would pull off that part of the trade.

What if the Cowboys had a real GM?
That my friend is the 1m question.

Stafford would have fared about the same here as he fared in Detroit. Neither team had the supporting cast the Rams did to get him a Super Bowl. The Rams really went all-in to put a team in place that could get it done. Stafford was just a piece of that.

Instead of Dak and his $60 million, the Joneses would have been talking about how much they were paying Stafford and how they couldn't afford to surround him with talent. Before being traded to the Rams, Stafford had received a contract in 2017 making him the NFL's highest-paid player. The year after he joined the Rams, he received a 4-year, $160 million extension.

Then he would’ve had the same career he had in Detroit. You think Rams won a ring because of Stafford?

Some good points , but Stafford in my opinion is a better passer , leader . Plus the cap savings of course . But Jerry probably would have messed that cap space :(

at least the cowboys would have saved 20- 30 million cap space on average ( if the GM knew what to do with it LOL ) . I still believe Stafford is a much better passer and gamer than Dak .
Maybe he is or maybe he isn’t. It’s been 28 years. Our issues go much deeper than Dak and to escape the whole Dak v Stafford argument….Romo was better and had the same issues and Dak nor Romo were throwing to Megatron.

I suspect he assumes a straight up trade for Dak
Lions would do it because offer way better for Goff and 1st rounders

Group effort for sure.

Stafford did become the first QB in NFL history to lead a playoff team to 3 straight late 4 quarter game-winning drives
so yeah, he played a huge role seeing it had never been done by anyone in history

I’m not denying his role…but he was the missing link to a team that made the SB without him. Odell, Von Miller, Aaron Donald and Ramsey will go down as All Decade Players and all are future hall of famers.

We'd have won 2 x SBs. Detroit would have stayed bad with Dak.

What if Jerry had never bought the Cowboys in 1989?

Who the you-know-what cares?

Didn't happen, let's not wallow in what ifs....
