Dismal five (5) year performances against better opponents

I don't think anyone needed to do research to know this is true.

Its the culture Jerry built.

They get up to beat dogs and get dog walked against the better teams......

Under Jerry this team just doesn't handle pressure well. Prime example......

No shame in losing to the Bengals even though they were a bad team. But in a some what big game these guys once again beat themselves in a game they should've won. If they don't choke it away at the end they get dog walked like the Packers game.
Last 49ers game....Dak sucks...defense for the most part play's decent....interception goes right to Diggs hands and drops it....other teams just don't do this. Not the champions. Bad teams typically play like this.

I would blame it on personnel but its been 28 years of this....
 
I tried to tell people this when they try to hype up Dan Quinn defenses. We never played elite defense against a real offense late in the season. Conversely we never played elite offense against a real defense late in the year. A real contender can do atleast of the 2.

Which one is easier to fix? Hint......defense

Quinn's defense sucked against the Packers.....but I don't know if you can entirely say it sucked against the contenders. The issue he had was he couldn't stop the run which wasn't his doing it was personnel.

I tried to calm people down when they were getting giddy over us finally establishing a home field advantage at AT&T....I actually listed the fifteen (15) teams we beat, and about 85%+ of them were dog crap.
 
Yes, and those three 12 win seasons include an 11-1 record against Washington and NYG.

I still say it’s more about the roster than McCarthy. He isn’t great, but not terrible and needs better players than someone who has better schemes. If that’s who Jerry wants as HC so he can do Jerry things, he has to be able to recognize that and act accordingly.

The two in charge are terrible evaluators and tell themselves things are better than they actually are is many situations.

Maybe that’s good enough for them so they can make their money and be celebrities. Could be. At some point that’s going to run dry.
 
Good article because I think many have lost the whole point of hiring McCarthy, and standard he had to reach. McCarthy never reached the goal set when he was hired. Last year, was totally on Jerry n friends, so I give him a pass.

I believe the re-signing of McCarthy shows Jerry is happy with mediocrity, but he has shown he is anyway.

There’s always enough bad teams in the league….ones that at least trying to rebuild properly, and of course the two free bingo card spots in the Giants, to have enough wins to hang “around that rim,” although that’s gone with Washington and the double digit win thing by doing nothing is probably over.

As I keep saying, this needs a crash and burn….and that may very well happen.

They are either too lazy to get out there to do any better, or get the vibe no one of consequence is really interested in working under the circumstances. There are other jobs available where the front office and ownership actually tries to get better…and is willing to pay the going rate on salary.

Upon examining the circumstances around the supposed McCarthy return, it’s absurd….and I don’t dislike the guy….but if you didn’t extend him a year or two ago, how do you justify that now?? You can’t, but Jerry can’t do any better, because he wants to rule everything.
 
This is the issue with falling in love with 12 wins instead of looking to proactively upgrade the roster. In a sport that only plays 17 games in a season average teams can look really good with the schedule working out in their favor or simply having a few fluky plays bounce their way against other average teams. You dont see that as much in the post season.

It didn't say sucked. His defenses never had a great day vs good offenses in December/January. Not one. People love to go to the 2022 niner playoff game like that was a great performance. No. There are no great playoff performances with no turnovers. Green Bay played great defense against us though. Aggressive, physical, tonesetting, turnovers etc. Our defense at best holds on for dear life

Yes….and they don’t get it at all.

Stephen was asked about exactly this a few months ago. He boasted of the 12 win seasons and the playoff excuse was that “sometimes that oblong ball doesn’t bounce the right way.”

Really?? THATS the difference in THREE more playoff games in a row? No, it isn’t.
 
Good enough isn't good enough for Dak. He needs great defensive performances. I'm not about to keep watching the same show expecting something different. The offense won't change as long as Dak is here. Put saquon on the 2022 team and niners still win. Does anybody doubt that?
 
No desire for change. No fire to get better and over the top.

Just don’t be terrible, so Jerry the media wants to talk to Jerry and he can advance his acting career. That’s the extent of their plan.

There’s no type of real direction, just collect players and coaches and think it’s all going to work well because who is smarter or better than them?

Here’s the problem….he is going to have to pay more than he wants to keep McCarthy. If this becomes hiring a new HC, and it just might over a few million (which Jerry has in his wallet) the whole thing is going to unravel, which is what I’d rather see than stay with Jerry’s plan of winning 7-9 games to stay “relevant.”
