In Hindsight, How Did Overshown Fall to the Third Round?

That hit he put on Xavier Hutchinson was my favorite. Just a thing of beauty watching him play. Dude is now my favorite player on the team.

Overshown was a fifth-year senior who had just switched from safety to LB, and had one big senior season. The positives on his scouting report were basically that he was a plus NFL athlete, and that he showed some real all-around game across all phases - pursuit, coverage, and blitzing. The negatives were basically his late breakout, his small box-safety frame that may not fit every defense, and his low-value position. It was concerning that he couldn't get going until he was basically a man playing amongst boys.

Drafting him was essentially placing a bet that his senior season was a sign of more Will-tastic things to come as he developed at LB, and not just a one-year flash in the pan.

I liked him, because Dan Quinn has always utilized the ever-loving crap out of those SS/LB hybrids, and Texas used him in that kind of role. He was exactly the kind of athletic, high-energy rover that DQ wanted. That "undersized" negative didn't really apply to him, because DQ built his defense around undersized LB types. So I thought he was worth more to us than to most teams.

Only problem now is his injury, which leaves a giant hole at WLB. If they think Clark is the answer, that's just incomitance.

Now that his leg is compromised, he might turn into a... what could of been player, like LVE. I hope not. Necks are different from knees, but he has to have built up a lot of unrepairable scar tissue; with all these repeat injuries.

Because you are watching a highlight real and not real game film

Overshown improved through his college career and that probably why he was a round 3 guy. His actual tape wasnt on par with a top 60 pick though. He was an ascending player, but there was still alot of projection

Good example. Clark was good at out athleting people in college. You could see that he wasnt a very cerebral player. Basically a more polished version of Jason Williams

Yeah WLB is a big need in this off-season. If they can bring Kendricks back, that would be a big plus. Need to go sign a Vet WLB like EJ Speed or Dre Greenlaw. I don't want to have to trust a rookie or Clark next year. LB's are one of the cheapest player acquisitions, and they will have plenty of money to do so. They just need to Restructure Dak and CD. It's going to happen; its built into their contracts. 60m freed up instantaneously.

Most boards had him rated as a 4th round pick. Undersized converted safety. Two ACL tears in 2 seasons should be a hint of some of what teams were concerned about!

But if you look at his college film, it's there. Even more now that I know what kind of player he is in the NFL. But the skillset was apparent on his college film if you just look at his play style and how he played the game. It was always going to translate to the NFL. You just had to see it amongst the other criticisms.

Honestly, I didn't think he'd be drafted in the first or second round. But now that I know what he is, I wouldn't be mad about it. He's awesome.

yeah, there are very few players no matter what that can play that way and last. Even monsters like Butkus did not stay at their peak due to injuries.

There is no comparison between a Hall of Fame talent in Parsons with a guy who flashed for a few games when Parsons received the offensive attention. I wish Overshown well but please stop the comparisons. The kid is not even on par with LVE yet.

Ya...i dont watch film...the guy could blow assignment after assignment...

all i know is i see him full speed around damn near every tackle when he is on the field

its actually like watching a science experiment where everyone has feelings and he doesnt....he can just launch his body, full speed into anything...just doesnt seem real to me almost.
