The Jerry Jones Arch Is Fascinating

He buys the team and instantly has success.

Wins 3 Super Bowls and is the owner of a dynasty.

Then he proceeds to spend the next 30 years tearing everything apart and destroying all of the goodwill he built up with the fanbase.

He could’ve went down as a legendary football team owner beloved by the largest fanbase in sports, but instead he seems hell bent on going out a hated and absolutely loathed villain.

I wrote something similar but years ago in the Garrett years. It basically boiled down to the fact that he was beloved for having Jimmy and winning. Any smart businessman would then try and follow the same pattern and keep it up. But he chose to alienate vs imitate. It’s bizarre.

Just imagine if he was like this from day one. He would arguably be one of the worst owners/ GMs ever in the history of the sport. I mean he's pretty close to being the worse GM ever at this point.

Now just imagine if him and Jimmy got along...could have one another one or two possibly

I don't think that was/is his goal. It just happens that he lacks the requisite skill to build a winner and senility is now a factor,.

ego can be a poison. his ego couldn't stand Johnson getting more credit and all the publicity. he ruined that relationship.
I strongly believe if he didn't get rid of johnson, we would have had 3 superbowl wins in a row. his attention to detail, and how he managed the team and critical moments in game was impeccable. we lost a close game to SF and missed superbowl in 94. johnson would have made a difference.

The problem with immediate success is that it creates a perception that a person it smart and successful at everything they do.
This paragraph speaks volumes about Jerry and the state of the Cowboys for the last three decades.

So there in fact is the rub.

Looking back it all happened too quickly for Jerry.

What’s so weird is that you would expect Jerry to get more and more desperate to see one more championship the older he gets.

Instead, the opposite has happened. He seems to be actively making decisions to ensure Dallas will never be in the big game again in his lifetime.

Such a bizzare character. I understand him less every year that goes by.

Jimmy worked miracles during the time he had control of the football team. Jerry ultimately couldn't stand it and believed he could do it just as well. He won the SB without Jimmy and that only re-enforced his thinking. It has been a total disaster.

Too many fans still don’t get what makes him tick. He bought the Cowboys to live out his dream of being a celebrity football guy.

Just being an owner wasnt his dream. Everyone should have realized this after winning back to back championships wasn’t enough.

He has to be the center of attention. The face of the franchise , etc. He’s not going to take a back seat to anyone including Jimmy Johnson regardless if they can deliver championships.

All of the revolutionary revenue streams were brilliantly put in place so the lack of success on the field wouldn’t force him out or to change his ways.

He would have sold or moved the team before stepping away or taking a back seat to anyone.

Can you imagine how this would have turned out if Jones roomed with Ken Hatfield on road games for Arkansas back in the 1960s instead of Jimmy Johnson?
Yep. I've made similar posts in the past as well.
The 90s success never happens and we're all left wondering if it was for the overall good or bad concerning the history of the team.

Unfortunately he doesn't have another Herschel Walker to trade.

Wow another bash Jerry thread. We haven’t had one of these for 10 seconds now.

And the reality is that the majority of the team in ‘95 already had one or two rings from ‘92 and/or ‘93 when we won SBs with Jimmy. But oh yeah, Jerry and Barry did it their way.

No, Jerrys way is what brought us 6-10 just 2 yrs later and no SB or NFCG in nearly 30 years.
