Some of the day 2 DT's if the team goes in another direction in rd 1

If we resign Osa I’d still try to find a vet run clogger in FA. Not a fan of Chubb due to him aging and coming off injury…Diggs is meh but depends on how he bounces back.

I hate going into a draft targeting positions bc that’s how you miss on top talent.
If we re-sign Osa, I'll be real surprised if we sign any other vet FA. Odighizuwa is going to cost $15 million to $20 million a year. I understand on Chubb and am OK on other FA backs instead, but someone like Aaron Jones coming off a good season is going to cost more. I think Chubb will be similar in price to Dowdle (since Dowdle is coming off a good year but only in his first year as starter). I'd rather swing for the fences with Chubb than re-sign Dowdle for the same amount. Diggs was on his way to a 1,000-yard season before his injury. He'd be a solid No. 2 depending on his recovery from the tear. Again, I wouldn't mind someone else, but I want us to go after "quality" and not just fill the positions with bodies and say we're OK.

Targeting, to me, in looking at the draft is really just projecting who might be available. For instance, if Abdul Carter somehow made it to our first-round pick, obviously you take him, but it's more likely for Jeanty, Walter Nolen, a couple of DEs, a couple of corners, a receiver and a couple of OL to be our best options there. If it's Jeanty, I'd probably take him because it's likely that he's fallen to our pick, but if it's the others, I take the DT Nolen because of position need and because I don't think there's much difference in value there.

I don't agree with you. This was essentially our approach to RB last offseason (low-priced vet in Elliott, re-signing Dowdle and late-round draft pick in Vaughn; in fact, we initially signed another low-priced vet). I'd much rather swing for the fences with Chubb. He should be a mid-priced vet. And then spend one of our first three picks on an RB. Load up that position as well.

Like you, I do think we need to focus on front seven defenders with most of our draft picks (and I would draft a DT in the first or if we draft Jeanty, a DT in the second and possibly another in the third), but we cannot neglect the RB position again. Teams that did not neglect it showed the value of having a good one. Not saying Chubb has to be that one, but just that he more fits what this front office is likely to do in FA because he's coming off injury and a down year so he should be cheaper (possibly similar in price to Dowdle). It's possible that Chubb will just re-sign with Cleveland on a prove-it deal, though.
They have to prioritize taking a high rb, not waiting until mid day 3. We saw that strategy fail two years ago in a deep class and they drafted Duece, who has been a healthy scratch for the majority of his career. I’m not leaving day 2 without a high end rb.

As for Chubb, I worry about his injury that he suffered two years ago. Just wasn’t the same back since he has returned. Unlike most, i want no part of RICO Dowdle next year, he is just an average backup type to me.

The best course is to draft a low cost back as a placeholder just in case the board doesn’t go your way, but to take a high back and add another later on in this deep class. It has been reported there are 35 draft able backs this yr. It’s an absolute loaded class!

That’s fair…but to be honest Rico was better than Chubb last year and is younger.

I’m on the fence on Diggs. If you tell me the injury is clear and he’s good with an incentive based deal sign me up…but I have a feeling he’s going to be looking for like 20 mil.

Ideally we fill major needs in FA so we can go BPA in the draft but I know that might not be realistic. If we don’t, just take the best players at money positions. We have needs everywhere.
