Greg Hardy was the last FA from another team who received more than $5 million in an average salary from Dallas. That was 2015. $5 million is backup money.

The Cowboys spent $80 million to retain DT Osa Odighozuwa on a 4 year deal. They also resigned WR/ return specialist Kavontae Turpin and safety Marquese Bell.

Dallas added a few players from other teams, signing RB Javonte Williams, G Robert Jones and DY Solomon Thomas. LB Kenneth Murray, Jr and CB Kaiir Elam were acquired in trades, bolstering the defense.

Dallas lost FA DE Demarcus Lawrence, CB Jordan Lewis, DE Chaunce Golston, RB Rico Dowdle and OT China Edoga. And Micah Parsons contract is likely even more costly as Myles Garrett has set the market for edge rushers at $40 million per year.

Unfortunately while the Cowboys were more active this year in FA they arguably have not shored up their roster from the losses and at this time probably have a less talented team.

Lawrence should have been moved on from at least 2 seasons ago. Continuously paying a strong side end like he’s a top Leo type pass rusher is just bad cap allocation.
Golston was drafted to replace Lawrence’s bad contract. He should have been able to take the position 2 seasons ago, wasn’t capable, leading to having to drop a 2nd on Kneeland.
That shouldn’t have been compounded by overpaying him to be a backup. More bad cap allocation.
Lewis will probably hurt a bit short term but there’s no way he play out close to that contract. He was starting to get that stiff legged running last year that Orlando Scandrick developed just before the bottom fell out.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the bottom played out by next season! At 30 is not the time to hand out a contract to a player that eclipses his 1st 3 contracts.
Edoga filled his purpose of holding the fort (kinda) until Richards was developed enough to take over the swing tackle.
They picked up Jones for the event Hoffman and Bass aren’t quite ready to be starting guards!
It’s more addition by subtraction with Edoga.

Yeah but look at all the former 1st rounders we've signed. Last season we only signed one in Trey Lance.....clearly that result has now gotten Jerry to sign a bunch of them this time.

He's discovered the new path to success
Lol all these former first rounders we signed were going to be week 3 of free agency signings. They just did it early so they can show the fans they “pro active” week 1.

It's funny how many fans other teams still think Jerry likes to spend $$. They really have no chance to compete at the highest level and as long as they are making $$ they truly do not care.

Truth, we are treading water at best and not improving the talent level on a team that only won 7 games last year.
We can only acquire so much talent in the draft.

I’m actually liking the mix of new players. Now are they any good? TBD. But this team needed a shakeup. It will at least be fun at camp with a ton of new players.

Status quo for 30 years. The Jones’ are absolutely not interested in getting better. At best the team is the equivalent of last year. None of the moves made (either resigning people or the trash brought in from the outside) make us better

Yea, it’s almost like they said. Here you go fans . We can be active . Unfortunately all appears to be Jags and or backups at best.

That's what they do. Build through the draft and fill in the rest with questionable talent. Besides the draft, the best talent they'll have are former good players at the tail end of their careers. It's not a way to build a contender. They're just hoping to get lucky.
