How much does every NFL owner want to win? A team-by-team breakdown of their efforts

Talent is where they fail. And lack of commitment or knowledge to get that talent. Or just refusal to do so, because they feel they are smarter than everyone else.
We like our guys. But those guys that can't get us over the top they still keep.

Being content with QB's, they got as an UDFA and a 4th round comp pick, that is more like a mid 5th round by the time they get to those comp selections. I do not care which of those QB's one is a fan of.
QB's that are past their prime, such as Parcels brought in.

Drafting injured players, then tell us they got a bargain. Reaching in rounds, then tell us they got a bargain. Trading future draft picks, to move up 10 spots in the draft. Tell us they got a bargain, but yet that player they could have still drafted if they stayed put. So 1 player for 2 picks that is just .. ok ...

Jerry Jones loves to claim he wants to win another Super Bowl in the worst way. But above all, Jones loves being the center of attention and maintaining control. This causes him to hold onto coaches too long because he doesn't want to pay them not to work, or to pass on hiring the most talented coaches because they might want more power than he is willing to cede. Jones also tends to drag out player negotiations because he's determined to pay them on his timeline, even if it means costing himself more in the long run.​

The. Cowboys... aka Jerry.... isn't "stuck" in ANYTHING. The Cowboys....aka Jerry... have (has) exactly what they (he) wants:

Attention
The spotlight
Profitability
 
I think this is pretty much where we are at. Jerry is not willing to do things differently when the things he does don't work. First and foremost comes doing things Jerry's way. Even if it means not winning Jerry has to have control. Hence, he is not willing to do what it takes to win anymore.

People say Jerry WANTS to win, he just doesn't know how. I think that is incorrect. If Jerry wanted to win more than he wanted to maintain control, he would give up control and get people who know what it takes to win. Jerry will not do that. He does not want to win if it means giving up control, and the center of attention.

Willing to do what it takes also means stepping down or away from operations to let someone else run the show. He has stated that he would never do that or he would never have bought the cowboys. It’s his play thing, his toy. He gets satisfaction from all of it and I don’t blame him, I would too. He’s living a dream scenario for most armchair GMs.

Good him for him, but that’s not willing to do what it takes.

He is willing to do what it takes. The second part of my statement said he does not know what it takes.

In sum, Jerry is willing to do whatever he thinks is necessary to win. The he thinks is the part that is not working.
 
I think the Cowboys are stuck in a special Jones Mode. The Jones Mode is an alternative reality where an old drunk and his ruddy faced nepo boy think they are football geniuses.

I would agree if Jerry Jones had a normal ego--an ego most people have. An ego that a good number of wealthy or even super-wealthy people possess.

Jones is a narcissist. He owned that exaggerated ego before being an NFL owner, who saw his franchise win three Super Bowls in a four-year stretch. What likely cemented in his type of ego-driven mind was the fallacy that whatever he did to help win those championships proves HE can do what others MIGHT be able to do.

Afterwards, fools the Pro Football Hall of Fame Board of Selectors gifted him a Gold Jacket. At that point, the self-delusion was even more reinforced.

My opinion remains Jones wants to win. He does not want to win as badly as some do but he does want to win nonetheless. His single worst obstacle is himself. His personal experience was completely misleading. And he had numerous opportunities to let someone else TRY to do what he has not done without a Jimmy Johnson influenced team.

A normal ego would have embraced the option of trying something else. His abnormal ego tries to do EVERYTHING else instead of pulling the trigger on himself (and his children). Jones has demonstrated the latter on numerous occasions by shaking up his front office but never himself.

I think you are still believing to much of Jerrys PR crap.

Jerry is not able to win. He is not, not just because he isnt able to do it on his own. He isnt because he lacks knowledge of how to build a working franchise. He does not know how to get the right people be aue ehe does not know what people at what positions he needs. Not even talking about chosing the right ones.

He had success when he was able to buy everyone he wanted. To have Jimmy also helped a lot. Come salary cap and the need of knowledge of usiness management Jerry was done.

The point is, at the end of the day Jerry is not giving up control. Clearly he does not know how to build a winning team, or he does but is unwilling to do it because it involves cutting himself out. The point is, Jerry will not remove himself from control and that is the one step he must make if he really wants to win again. But he has said it multiple times. He bought the team to do what he is doing and he is not going to stop.

Yes i understand what you were saying. And i think you are right.

Still i do think that people who believe that Jerry is able to build a winning franchise but is unwillig to do so are victims of his PR machine.

He is not able to do so. But he needs people to believe so his business is successfull.

Content to compete- This is exactly where Dallas is and wants to be. They will make just enough moves, signings whatever to feel like they can compete (wildcard) and then stop. As soon as they feel like they can squeek into the playoffs they stop signing anyone of note. If they feel a losing season coming on they may pull the trigger and make a trade. I believe the only reason they did not last year was because the losing was a result of to many injuries and those guys should be back this year, vs they had to trade for amari because they did not have a star wr anywhere on the roster.
