So given the talk that Dallas was looking to add a QB in this years draft - where would Joe Milton fall in the current rankings and where would he have likely been drafted?

1. Cam Ward (1st round)
2. Shedeaur Sanders (1st round)
3. Jaxon Dart (1-2 round)
4. Jalen Milroe (1-2 round)
5. Will Howard (2-4 round)
6. Quinn Ewers (2-4 round)
7. Kyle McCord (3-5 round)
8. Dillon Gabriel (3-5 round)
9. Tyler Shough (3-5 round)
10. Riley Leonard (4-6 round)
11. Brady Cook (4-7 round)
12. Kurtis Rourke (4-7 round)

As a 2024 prospect? Probably somewhere between Gabriel and Cook. But who knows what he is as a professional. You have 1 less year of minimum rookie salary, and he’s been initiated to the NFL by a bad team. So he could be better than that now, or not.

Like take Lance for instance, he was 3rd overall. Even if you didn’t think he was worth 3rd overall, he was going to go in the first round somewhere. 2 years later, the 9ers are happy to get a 4th for him. At the time of the trade, you can’t really make out anything more than that; that in itself is alarming.

Milton was a 6th round pick and was traded a year later for what is the equivalent of a 6th round pick. But because Dallas is not getting 4 years of rookie deal and a “fresh” player, that could be seen as his stock going up. He played well against Buffalo’s backups, so that’s something. But is the argument McCord wouldn’t? Gabriel wouldn’t?

It was a fine trade for proper value, and it’s not like 5th round QBs are guaranteed to be way better. So don’t try and overthink it. What if all these guys are gone by Dallas’ pick they traded? Could happen. Milton is a bird in hand.

Skip the first 6 on this list. And then we can discuss where he would go. I think between 3rd and sometime in 6 round his is area if he was in this draft. I would honestly take Gabriel, Leonard, Rourke before him. So like the 10th QB taken.

And that is why you will never be a scout lol

Exactly. Don’t overthink it. We weren’t going to draft a QB in rounds 1-3. Our history shows that and we just paid Dak 60 APY. So we got a guy on the roster for a 5th round pick. About Milton in general without thinking too much.
Pros:
1. In the limited time he’s played he’s looked promising. A lot of upside.
2. Athletic freak that can run and throw the ball flat footed 75 yards. And shows he has pocket awareness and escapability
3. Has game experience
4. Cheap contract
5. Unlike the Lance trade we get him prior to OTAs, mini camps and TC/preseason. He has time to learn the offense

Cons:
1. His game experience is limited to preseason and a throw away game.
2. Needs to work on accuracy and ball placement
3. Very raw
4. He seriously needs to work on accuracy, that’s been the knock on him. Is he a freak athlete that can throw the ball or is he a QB. There’s a difference. Example: Lance is/was a freak athlete that can throw the ball and run fast but he wasn’t a QB. If he is he didn’t show it. Just showed glimpses of being a QB while being an athlete. Josh Allen is a physical freak and a QB. Brady is not a physical freak but a great QB.

Personally I’m pretty excited because we have Dak for 2 or 3 more years and we basically got Milton for free (5th round comp pick) and 1.2 million APY. I’m really happy with this trade because the draft capital and cap space is nothing compared to what could happen. I’m also happy Jerry is at least trying to churn the bottom of the roster for potential high ceiling QBs. Will Grier and Rush are capped out. I like the idea of trading for guys like Lance and Milton because they have potential and picking up guys like this every other year is a good strategy IMO.

Give me 1 of these guys

10. Riley Leonard (4-6 round)
11. Brady Cook (4-7 round)

different QB for the Room. we have a super mobile guy in Milton an Statue in Dak and a mix with 1 of these guys.

Few such raw QBs coming to the NFL pan out as starters of quality

but he could be a good back up

people talk about developmental QBs but they rarely become much

I would be interested in Gabriel at some point starting at around round 5. I see him having a floor as a legitimate backup but I think he “might” be a solid bus driver as an NFL starter for the right team.

Given the fact that NE was / is horrible with roster problems all over the place plus the win he had against a Buffalo squad looking past that game and into the playoffs it’s hard to tell about this player .

You gave up next to nothing he’s making next to nothing , basically he’s a younger more mobile version of Cooper with better tools to work with . Overall a churn the roster move with possible upside little to none down side .

Dude is 6’5” 240 range and mobile . Interesting project for these coaches . This gives Dak something to at least think about and not look over and see Cooper Rush another year and get comfortable and complacent .

6. Quinn Ewers (2-4 round)

it doesn't change anything if any of those guys I just saved from your post are there in the fifth round I'm taking them matter of fact bill and Gabriel if he's there I'm snatching him up but if they like when yours that much if he's in the fifth round you take him.. It changes nothing you can let Milton fight for a spot on this team with whoever you pick in the draft and will grier would be cut.. So in my opinion this doesn't change anything if they still have abpa and a target you get much like we saw in 2016 when they brought Prescott in the fourth round that was a steal from what I heard he was a late first round to early second round comp.

He only slipped because his DUI but remember who was on this team when they did that they still were counting on Romo they had Mark Sanchez and they brought over that dude named Kelly Moore it just was weird they all got hurt but Prescott's coming off an injury very similar eerie situation where we also need a quarterback that we didn't address in 2015 that we addressed in 2016 this could look a lot like that draft if they see a guy in the fifth round that they could have been a third rounder why would you not take him. And again we're talking about a fifth round pick... We see guys all the time in the NFL that somehow slipped like Tom Brady Brock Purdy.. Bucky Irving low 4th turned starter as rookie..

I liked
Jaxon Dart (1-2 round)
Quinn Ewers (2-4 round)
Riley Leonard (4-6 round)
Dallas could have got any of these in late 1st or 2-4th round.
