Our FA signings Tier 6 or below

Fowler had 10.5 sacks last season.

For reference, TJ Watt had 11.5 and played almost twice as many snaps as Fowler.

Does not mean Fowlwr is great, but I question the meaning of "7th" tier...
Yeah I was gonna say their description of what tier 7 is doesn’t fit what Fowler is.

Aaron Rodgers is in tier 3,
Tyler Locket tier 4.
Von Miller, Tyron Smith & Eric Kendricks are in tier 5.
The Athletic guys are idiots.
I'll take my carne guisada on homemade corn tortillas...

This is not a franchise interested in competing for a tile. Prove me wrong.

I really don't have much of an issue with the Fowler ranking. Probably more of a tier 6 than tier 7 guy by their definition, but I don't think they are way off at all. Tier 6 by their definition includes "upper-end role player" which is exactly what I think Fowler is. I think his 1yr/$6M contract suggests the rest of the league would agree the ranking isnt all that far off. Hes roughly 75th in terms of AAV received this offseason in FA. Likely to drop a few more spots as guys like Rogers, Allen, Za'Darius Smith, etc. sign with someone.

Just another useless rankings from another useless team of self appointed experts.
Their 6, tier 7. Come on what a load of crap.

You have basically 3 tiers, or waves to be more accurate. Then all the ones that did not get signed yet. For which teams are waiting for after the draft. Not all FA's will be signed every year. It does not make them horrible players. Most are just near retirement Or a rookie can be more valuable, as to a longer, cheaper contract.

I thought it was interesting that The Athletic had this year's free agent signings grouped by tiers. Naturally, our front office wasn't selecting from the first or second tiers or even from the first five. Our first signing came from Tier 6, which included "inconsistent or journeyman veterans who still have appeal; youngsters with potential or traits worth developing who have yet to hit their stride; upper-end role players."

68. RB Javonte Williams (Tier 6)

96. DE Dante Fowler (Tier 7 - Veterans who could start if needed, but teams would prefer to upgrade on; role players with a standout trait; talent worth taking a flier on.)

138. LB Jack Sanborn (Tier 8 - Veterans who might be near the end; role players; former draft crushes who haven’t panned out yet.)

DE Payton Turner, OL Robert Jones, DL Solomon Thomas and RB Miles Sanders were not included among 150 free agent signings. LB Kenny Taylor, CB Kairr Elam and QB Joe Milton III were acquired in trades.
I'm sorry but rankings and tiers are ridiculous it's wrong right from the beginning there's no way Williams is higher than Fowler who just put up 10.5 sacks last year was one of the better producing defensive ends in the NFL IE 12th.. 3.5 sacks less than miles Gary supposed to be the best in the league and you're gonna put the guy at tier 7!!!!!! :muttley: :oldcouple:

I don't know where it put him but he definitely was one of the better ones there's no way he's tier 7 and Jack Sanborn played a lot of snaps there's no way he's tier 8, and you can do this to start fires and everyone can say Jerry's cheap but a lot of these players are a lot better than their tiers or their rankings it's how they fit in to your team and they all have roles coming out of training camp but just looking at the top of that list you'd be dead wrong... My list Dante Fowler would be Tier 2 like maybe late Tier 2 early tier 3 there's no way in hell he's tier 7... Correct Williams and Sanders are probably that low we're not putting Sanborn Tier 4 I'm putting Solomon Thomas tier 5 see how I can put up my rankings and nobody's gonna agree that these rankings you're pulling off the Internet are stupid you're not stupid I'm not saying that I'm saying they're just dumb by nature because rankings and tears are all opinionated they're coming from somebody else's brain is looking at it differently and we all wanna roast Jerry Jones so that's where it starts...

. You know what I find hilarious just to add to this is the players who are left now in free agency are tier 6 and below everybody else who got picked up within the first two weeks which most of ours were most peoples were or above that in my opinion I'm not gonna list them all I think it's the most ridiculous thing to count on other people's rankings as if they're like set in stone I have my own eyes and I make my own evaluations and just looking at that I say it's all wack or add a whack..

Exactly just about all the players that went in the first two weeks which is when the most activity was have to be above tier 6 and literally you take one of our guys who is 12th overall in sacks last year in the entire NFL only 3.5 sacks short of miles Garrett who's number two and you're putting him that low dude these rankings are just out of whack it makes me say they're not legitimate at all they're another opinion that you can blindly share OR you can reject it ,

because i don't agree..

My opinion the free agents that are still left those guys are tier 6 and below everybody else has to be tier 5 and above because they were already picked early and they're gonna have a chance to make the teams but still I agree with you the rankings are just dumb they're not real these are people's opinions and when you put Fowler that low and Sanborn who was basically a starter and you're putting him that low it's insane I wonder where they put Kendricks because Kendricks was actually one of the better middle linebackers the green dot wearing linebackers last year and most people dismissed it like it was nothing did you see his stat sheet that means he was a Tier 2 guy last year for us even I bet he was ranked tier eight people don't know how to rank things anymore without putting analytics in it and letting the computer decide for them...

OT Armstead for the Dolphins just retired. I wouldn't be surprised if Tyron Smith is their addition to help Patrick Paul's transition to the NFL. I really want the Cowboys to resign Tyron, I don't trust Guyton or Steele to hold up throughout the entirety of this season. Signing him after the draft would be advisable so it doesn't affect the Comp Pick Formula.
Dude, Tyron hasn’t played a full season since the NFL was formed.

So when some are wanting the season to go faster or just get over with in mid November - just remember this is the dumbest crap we have to debate in the offseason
There’s no debating. Ever since Brandon Carr sucked this FO has not even tried in FA.

Well if he comes in for the lead minimum whatever that is for a top veteran with his tenure we're not asking him to be a starter a spot starter like Peters or Edoga but maybe possibly better I'd be OK with that but I'd have to be all escalated language in his contract he got to earn it all like very low base pay and then if he wants 6,000,000 going to have to earn just about all of it over whatever the veteran minimum is I think it's around 1.5 million he would make in base salary... I mean I might be OK with that for sure he's no longer a starter and no team should be depending on a guy like tyron Smith but we could use a swing tackle...

It went under the radar but technically kendricks had a great year last year dude his stat line look like he could get into the Pro Bowl I know it sounds like it's exaggerated but look at how it compares to the rest of the actual middle linebackers that wore the green dot he was way better pick up than people reacted to like they're doing right now he's better than those tier 5 players that are listed right there with him he played that well like a starter... And yes many on that list are being way undervalued it's so stupid people rank things and opinions are taken as like some kind of real data no rankings and tiers are just opinions by someone else.

First of all, he did not suck, he literally just did not live up to his contract which most free agents do not you don't you want to know what suck looks like try the money they gave to huff you know the defensive end and with the eagles last year did nothing hell he wasn't even good enough they didn't even put him on the roster for the Super bowl they paid that man $17 million I don't know if it's a 3 or 4 year contract but that's getting ripped off when you don't do anything and you're so little of a contributor that you don't even get put on the roster for the Super bowl..

But Brandon Carr played very well he just didn't play to an elite level that his contract said he should have...

You have to look at more than just sack numbers though. Myles Garrett is a full time player who puts up elite pass rush numbers despite a massive double team rate. He also isnt taken off the field for run downs as he is a plus player on that side of it. Fowler is a rotational edge player with one plus skill, and is a liability on run downs. There is a reason Myles Garrett has a $160M contract and Fowler a $6M deal. This goes way beyond just recent sack totals.

Didn’t Tyron sign with the Steelers 3 days ago?

I think the gentleman qualified already for chewing gum and walking in the woods. Football is still a team sport based upon design and leadership, ON THE FIELD. So you are stepping up here and now, declaring they failed, huh?
