Here's my question;
Who is our back up QB when Dak goes down?
This is a developmental guy, not a solid number 2.
OK let me throw one out I know it's going to be weird hypothetical for you guys.
but I get tired of hearing all this from you all ,
you guys play both sides of the fence all the time... I don't think Cooper rush was going to give us much value and keep an injured team on track and do much,
I don't think many of the backups in the league and I looked at all of them, there aren't anybody in the league as a backup that can carry your team unless he's on a loaded team and they're barely going to drop from the starter gap to the backup gap because they can cover it up with a run game ,great offensive line ,and great defense...
sometimes that happens like Nick Foles he's not a great quarterback, but he was on a team that could cover up the fact that they lost their starter.
That's the thing again go look around I mean I can post I got some screenshots of all the backups in the league none of them are that impressive,
but here's my argument,
why would you want your backup to be anything but developmental unless you're a guaranteed deep playoff run, a true team with a chance at going to the Super bowl??
everyone around here with hypocrisy vibes, if we're not that close, then don't you want to have a developmental backup quarterback that could get real snaps in live games over a stretch that gives us a good shot of who he is, so that way when we get a high draft pick for having a bad year, then maybe we pick a quarterback or maybe we don't because then we can get a real long look at the guy.. but isn't that the point doesn't?
you want to organically tank without tanking, don't you want to finish higher in the draft someone like Cooper Rush won us a couple extra games that we probably would have picked 9th had we had a worse quarterback there ,and maybe even got better talent this year in the draft.
So I'm not a person who agrees with the whole tank premise, it's fake, you don't want to tank on purpose but you do want to develop players when you have a chance and I think Cooper rush was in the way of Trey Lance last year...
there's a reason he's getting another shot with the chargers he needs to play live games real games where he's not coming in as a decoy and runs the football every once in a while, he needs to be able to run the offense he needs to fail before he can succeed but he needs to do it in real situations.
But isn't that what Cowboys fans want if your starters start going down why try to save the season why not try to get a higher draft pick and at the same time develop players that is the perfect time to develop players and Mike McCarthy and Jerry Jones made a mistake last year in my opinion... They should have demoted Cooper rush to third and allowed Trey Lance who made about the same amount of money, so this is not about money, and let him play all those snaps we may not have needed to pick up Milton this year, if we really saw Trey Lance for that long stretch.
Worst case scenario, the Cowboys are picking 9th instead of 12th, I thought that's what people around here have wanted to talk about all the tanking if you lose your starting quarterback on most teams for the year or for a stretch like a long stretch you're probably not making it far in the playoffs anyway if not probably missing the playoffs.
that is a perfect time to utilize a developmental player but especially at quarterback they need not preseason games and practice and scrimmages they need real games true real games where it's on the line ,where you have a game plan ,and you're really trying to run the offense, reading real defenses, that is what it's supposed to be about...
That is why there are players that have found their careers later on like Geno Smith and Sam Darnold because they played so many games as backups but got real time they also were spot starters long enough that they started getting better and then all of a sudden now they have a career and even Baker's Mayfield was able to resurrect his career although he was already better than those guys...
At worst this guy can end up turning into a guy like Joshua Dobbs, so I think it's a good comp for him or maybe Tyrod Taylor, because they're poor man's versions of Cam Newton.. this guy's body is built like Cam Newton not Lamar Jackson not thin and lean you know like Trey Lance he could probably also be used a lot like Taysom hill..
