Broaddus's price to trade up for Hunter

Going up and trading for those guys don't seem to work very well in this league. Not sure if its worth it. Seems like its best to follow your board then to trade up for a guy.

That is for teams that supplement their rosters with quality free agents. Then you are just using the draft as another roster-building supplement. We are using the draft as THE roster builder. We use free agency primarily to bring in cheap guys who we hope will prove to be better than their value or washed-up players who we hope have one decent year left.

Houston traded up for Will Anderson Jr., who won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2023. Eagles traded up to take Jalen Carter (although that was just one spot).

Notice though 2 out of the 3 were via free agency or trade. Then there's Higgins and Chase....which....I mean they stink right now as a team but that duo did make a SB.

And we are not going to do either ... use free agency to bring in a quality player or make a significant trade. We did trade a first for Amari Cooper, but that's only because we were desperate and did not have basically any good receivers.

True but nevertheless, you still had 2 ALL-PROs at the same positions. Shoot, Overshown gave us clips of what it was like having another speed guy next to Parsons. Imagine Cater and Parsons on the field together and sweet thing about it also, Carter up for a new right about the time Parsons' current deal will be ending.

I agree with you. But are we sure that standing pat won't get us a game changer? I've seen some scenarios where 1 or 2 do fall to us. But right now its tough to know because we have no idea what's going to happen with those QB's. Giants are kind of screwing things up not going QB.

It could (I mean, we did get Parsons at 12), and I don't really expect us to trade up. I'm just saying that I'm at the point where I wouldn't mind us doing it.

And I've always been against trading up because it costs us picks when we're a team that relies on our picks more than other teams due to how we use (or don't use) free agency. But I'm beyond that now. If the front office isn't going to supplement our roster by trying to bring in difference-makers in free agency (and yes, you can find some), then I'm just for getting the most exciting additions we can in the draft even if we have to trade up to do it.

I'm less inclined to trade up for Graham or Jeanty if Carter and Hunter are gone, but it wouldn't bother me. I think Graham could be the 3-tech we've always wanted and Jeanty would be absolutely fun to watch.

Being a good team and got two big time players. I would’ve never did that unless I knew we would be a playoff team next year. For Anderson it was worth it. Not sure if I’d do it for any of these guys….and I’m referencing trading a first or a second next year type of move up. I’m for trading up a few spots to get the guy I want.

I mean I’d take a Gilmore or Cooks type talents in a trade right now. Let’s remember the Ware the Broncos got was nothing like the Cowboys Ware. But he filled a hole and opened things up for Ware. I’d take a similar move.

Higgins has never made an All Pro or Pro Bowl. He’s a great receiver but he’s not the caliber of Chase or Jefferson or even Lamb.

And I like Carter. But think with the draft you gotta stick to your board. Because I’m reminded of what would’ve happened if we never traded up for Mo Claiborne? What would the alternative had been? Would we have faired worse with Brockers and Wagner?

Or what if we traded up for Jaycee Horn because we didn’t think it was worth taking Micah? It’s just tough to say.

I think of a player like Javon Hargrave a couple of years ago. Sure, he got hurt and eventually released by the 49ers, but they brought him in to help them reach the Super Bowl, and he did. They paid a handsome price for Hargrave coming off his best year as a pro (11 sacks) and he helped push them over the top.

Without that kind of move, I just feel like we're trading out like for like at best and treading water. At least trading for one of the few blue-chips in this draft wouldn't be a treading water move. As I said, it's not going to win us a Super Bowl, but as we've seen year after year after year, neither is this current strategy.

The Joneses showing us what "all in" and "selectively aggressive" means to them just makes it where I no longer care about draft strategy because it isn't going to change our FA strategy or our fortunes. I'm OK with just going and getting the best possible player we can any way we can.

I look at the Eagles last year and yes Saquon was a great acquisition but let’s also give due to finding Zack Baun cheap, the rookie class. They improved their team not by signing a Hargraves. Let’s remember their big free agent a question Bryce Huff flopped and didn’t make any impact.

Im certainly not saying don’t go after bigger free agents. I’m saying take a more balanced approach. Fowler I’m fine with. Murray and Elam im fine with. Needle movers? No. But Zack Baun wasn’t a needle mover until he became a All Pro.

Every NfL feels they do what it takes to win a ring. All have different approaches. Only one of the approaches will work next season. I say that to say…we don’t know what this team is. Let’s remember in 2016 how bad things looked when Romo went down….a solid rookie class later and things looks promising. All it takes is one offseason to right a ship.

I see that you are still holding out hope for that one offseason. I've given up on that. Even when this team appears to be one or two players away, it won't get those players.

2016 is a good example to use. Maybe if we had brought in a top free agent DT instead of having a starting line of Tyrone Crawford, Maliek Collins, Terrell McClain and Jack Crawford, we could have been a legitimate contender. Same with not sticking with Morris Claiborne as a starting corner. Realizing the mistake and moving on.

We are not one offseason away and won't ever be because we do not use free agency to upgrade our roster. So give me a blue-chip to enjoy.

Oh, I don't think it's winning football, either. Football is a team game, so as long as you have more weak links than other teams, you are likely to fail.

I do agree that it contradicts their draft approach, which is why I don't see them doing it. In the past, my approach to the draft has been trying to figure out the best way to maximize their approach. I'm no longer worried about that. Now, I just want to have fun. Trading up and taking Hunter would be fun.

When I say one off season away I’m saying from making the playoffs. The days of predicting a conference championship or SB I’m not there. I’m just trying to build a competitive and competent team that can get in the playoffs.
