Terence Steele at RT again

I can't believe we are going to be paying him $18,125,000 for being one of the worst RT's in the NFL. Dude really had 1 good year (contract year) and Jerry Jones overpaid for him. With how bad our offensive line was last year I am very surprised we didn't attempt to address that in FA.
FA???
Do we address anything in FA? :lmao:

New Coaching staff? Wasn't Schotty his coach? Did he coach him to play poorly?
Exactly...people who are expecting a massive offensive shift are setting themselves up to be disappointed.

People like the throw Solari's name out there as the issue, but unless we can identify a specific technique that needs to be changed blaming a position coach is just an easy talking point. People then skip right over the Schotty blame and right to McCarthy since he was calling plays. It's like people think Schotty just worked on his coloring books all week instead of play design and game planning....the thinks OCs typically do.

Really if fans would rewatch some of the games later in the year its very clear the Xs and Os of this offense will not be changing much at all. Some major talking points Schotty has had that all show up consistently in later games (Tampa, Philly, Cincinnati, Carolina, etc.)

  • Run first approach - Check
  • Short Splits - Check
  • Balanced run/pass formations - Check
  • Lateral movement with the OL - Check
Schottenheimer's fingerprints are all over the 2024 Cowboys offense. I'm sure we will see some new wrinkles with Klayton Adams coming in, but I'd anticipate 80% at least of the offense to be carried over, especially since Adams hasnt ever been an OC.

He actually played well the last 1/2 of 2024. Took longer then expected returning from a torn ACL.

He is terrible post injury. He has one good year. Huge mistake bringing him back. But then again the Dallas front office and fans both embrace mediocrity. So all is well in Cowboy country.

They paid him just prior to the start of his walk year.

It’s tough to make that type of mistake, eat it, then sign a replacement of significance.

He just isn’t that good. He played acceptably but nowhere near enough to have earned that contract. I suspect they wanted to pat themselves on the back for a UDFA starter.

The people running the team aren’t good ar their jobs is the bottom line.
I do not think its coincidental that his play fell off as Martin's did.

Maybe he was finally healthy after the injury. Let's see how he looks with the new staff.
I watched those games; it was more to the point that others got the job done first more than his ability.

AND his run blocking DID NOT IMPROVE.

Sometimes a player does not come all the way back from an injury. Rare anymore but it happens.

In the meantime, we have one of the better RT prospects in the league getting his arse handed to him at LT. But we insist on leaving him at LT.

Makes no sense.

Yes, we are overnight going to become more physical mentally and while we draft more perimeter players.

Our thing is to see if the NEW coaching staff can get him to play better, we shall see. If we draft a OT high in the draft, that has to mean something for the left or right side, I don't think they're ready to give up on Guyton yet after having only 1 year in
I think you’re right about this.

I believe that all of the offensive linemen are getting a fresh start under the new coaching staff.

It's nice that you think that you're a GM or any kind of professional scout of players ,

he's actually played better towards the end of the year, like trying to get his injury in the rearview mirror, get his confidence back and all that..

But let me explain to you some football he got paid because he was playing really well his injury has made that look in hindsight when you can come on to a forum and be an amateur given your opinion, you'd realize that Jerry couldn't have seen the injury coming he got paid for his potential... Guys get paid because they have contract years and then the front office hopes that they can continue doing it they can't see a major injury coming and how well they're going to come back from it ,it happens.

So, you really can't blame the front office for paying him because he was playing well when they paid him.. But from what I've seen he started showing flashes especially in the run game getting better in the past game to his old self and I think they're going to try to give him a last shot at it the new coaching staff new offensive lineman new scheme..
this is not the same as last year,
lots of change especially the fact that you say the offensive line played bad now the offensive line played bad the first 9 games of the year but once they got Martin out of there inserted Hoffman tried to solidify the left tackle spot and it kept getting injured they played a lot better the run game improved a lot the defense played really bad the first nine games of the year as well and then when they started getting bodies back and started figuring out what they needed to do they played really well down the stretch but it was too little too late but don't act like they didn't play better the end of the season than they did to start the season..

But what I can't believe is fans still think they know more than the GM oh my God we didn't go out and overpay a right tackle or left tackle well tell me every one of those that went in free agency that were available and why they were available and that you're guaranteeing the money paid to them is going to pay off..

I think their plan is to move Guyton over there, if Guyton doesn't win the spot in training camp they're going to work that over and maybe we do have a right tackle and he's going to be moved over there then we got to figure out left tackle but show me the list of all these high end tackles that we were supposed to replace the guys we had with...

He was actually much better when Martin went out of the lineup, reportedly Martin couldn't move at all.

This is why I would never be opposed to drafting a LT in this draft.

Guyton can then go to RT and Steele can be a June 1 cut.

Steele is an overpaid JAG. He just is.

But you are getting into this muddy territory where Jerry/Stephen are loathe to admit a mistake, especially a costly one. So Steele will ride it out at RT until is becomes so painfully obviously he's cooked.

I had always been against moving Tyler to LT but honestly, with how we are made up, the best OL might be Smith moving to LT, Guyton over to RT and then finding that mix of interior guys with Beebe, etc.

How bad it was last year has nothing to do with this year. New starter, new scheme, new coaches. Guyton will be better, Beebe will be better, Hoffman probably plays better than Martin.

If Steele gets outplayed he won't be the starter. I'm pulling for Richards to take over. At the least I'd like to see Steele's deal redone.

Lastly, you are surprised we didn't attempt to address this in FA? Really?
