Terence Steele at RT again

I can't believe we are going to be paying him $18,125,000 for being one of the worst RT's in the NFL. Dude really had 1 good year (contract year) and Jerry Jones overpaid for him. With how bad our offensive line was last year I am very surprised we didn't attempt to address that in FA.
He played better down the stretch last season but I'm with you, we're paying a lot of money for a guy who's probably not better than average. He is the 11th highest paid RT which isn't terrible, but he probably should be closer to the 8-9 million a season range.

He always looks as dumbfounded as Dak most games. Heck by the time he gets off the snap his guy is usually in our backfield.
I didn't realize they were paying 18m......dam shocking head scratcher for sure.

Our thing is to see if the NEW coaching staff can get him to play better, we shall see. If we draft a OT high in the draft, that has to mean something for the left or right side, I don't think they're ready to give up on Guyton yet after having only 1 year in
One Cowboys employee I won't miss is freeze-dried Mike Solari, former offensive line coach of our team.

Supposedly, Riley's dilemma is getting the 2 best tackles out of Steele, Guyton and Richards.

If Steele genuinely wins his spot at RT that would leave Richards and Guyton competing for the LT spot.

Then I am of that minority which says take the best tackle on the team who's been playing guard and put him at LT. That's Tyler Smith.

This is why Riley gets the big bucks.
Hopefully he will improve the line by putting the best player in the best position for team success and scheme.
In Riley we trust.

OR draft another left tackle, lol.
Steele and Guyton are gonna start.

Money plays in the NFL.

Steele's talent as a pass protector may or may not ever match his ability to block for the run. With that said, he'll be observed in TC to determine if his pass protection has improved or not. Perhaps, if he's able to improve in pass protection, he'll be allowed to retain his spot at RT. We'll see about that.

Nevertheless, there will possibly be a candidate to show better talent in pass protection. If that's the case, a change might be considered. Here's hoping it's a need that eventually gets resolved.

I am pretty sure the Kansas State OL coach will turn Steelers into Erik Williams. I feel bad for the rest of the league.

I understand the frustration but let's accurately describe the situation.

  • He isn't the worst RT in the league
  • Pre Injury his lateral movement was marginal when facing the speedier rushers. So yes, any injury that takes away lateral movement really hurts his pass pro abilities.
  • He was a good young player when they gave him the contract. Agree or disagree with the specifics, he would have gotten similar contract from any team. Guys get hurt. Just a fact of life in the NFL. Doesn't make the contract bad.
  • He seemed to be playing better second half of the season. Let's see how this year shakes out.
  • If they truly plan to run it more, could play into his strengths.

Bingo...I'd love to see an upgrade at RT, but Steele is far from the biggest issue on this roster. Steele is a guy you can have a solid OL with. The issue is that most of the OL is suspect as well.

I have no idea how this is going to play out. But please give this new coaching staff a chance to work with these guys because they've been working under crap for the last few years.
