With the depth of this draft along the DL and at RB, this would be the yr to fix their run defense and ground game, but is starting to point to them drafting skilled, positional players:

-major buzz that they will be drafting a 1st rd wr
-have brought in all the top running backs
-rumors about Diggs not being ready and a possible June 1st release could mean they are hunting for his replacement

I would spend the whole class on fixing their run defense and run game. Find a stop gap at wr and at cb via fa.

As usual, who comes off the board will determine who we pick first. If Jeanty falls, I think Jerry bites. If Tet is gone, I don't think we take a WR. But I do think we get a RB on day 2.

Releasing Diggs this year does not help the team in any way. He's a 12.5M cap hit if they keep him. Making him a June 1st cut costs the Cowboys almost 18M over two years. The Cowboys don't need the extra 4m in cap space this year. If they wait until next year, Diggs is a 5.8M dead cap. However, cutting him does save Jerry 9m in real money. So if they do cut him, it's not team related.

I agree with you on the draft class. I would do the same. Worry about the rest next year. We're not going to be contenders this year.

There is smoke that the Cowboys are not happy with Diggs and how he has rehabbed. There was talk that they may look to trade or release him

You are thinking logical! The Cowboys have been out thinking themselves for so long I just don't see that changing. Jerry will do something dumb like take a WR. The Cowboys are not committed to running the ball and stopping the run like many think Schottenheimer is bringing to the table.

I mean, Schottenheimer literally said he wants to build the team outside in, starting with the skill positions.

So yeah, I'd bet the plan for the first three picks is WR, CB, RB. It may not end up that way if someone falls into--or out of--our lap. They may also prioritize DE or OT above RB, since it's more valuable money wise.

But yeah. I agree with the OP. I'd rather they get their WR, and then just blast the front seven with resources.

Cowboys need a CB early no matter the plan for Diggs. I know they love young guns like Butler and Carson, but they can't take a gamble of not adding a higher talent on Friday.

This is where I disagree.
Cowboys have spent numerous 1st round and 3rd round picks on oline.
They tried to get a Dt in the 1st. Osa was a 3rd. Kneeland a 2nd.
It's not like they just neglect the positions(besides the mazi pick)
What they don't do is take rb or wr high. It's time to get dak real talent to work with.

There not releasing Diggs June 1st. If they wanted to release Diggs it would have happened already. Diggs has a chance to be ready before Overshown.

Cowboys have so many holes but they have huge boat sinking holes at running back, cornerback, and 1 tech.

Reach for a WR in the 1st, draft an injured CB round 2 and a RB in round 3.

Cowboys special.
In the Cowboys way of thinking they need an explosive wide receiver to open up the offense. The bracket coverage on CeeDee has killed us in the playoffs.

Revel has traits that if he didn’t tear his ACL he would have been at top 15 pick.

Running back is probably our biggest hole. The room was probably better going into last offseason then this offseason.

Agree with all…but that doesn’t change my post.

They have done nothing to help their run defense this offseason and claim it is a major weakness

They brought in some solid linebackers but neglected the defensive tackle position. If there is run at running back and cornerback like I expect, I think they would have no choice but to get the 1 tech in the second.

They downgraded from Kendricks to Murray at MLB. DE lost their two best run defenders in DLaw/Golston.

Murray is Overshown’s replacement while he rehabs. The Chicago linebacker is the replacement for Kendricks and he knows Eberflus’s scheme. DLaw missed most of the season and Kneeland is his replacement. Gholston was replaced by the Saints defensive end who has more talent then Gholston. Eberflus has a totally different scheme. I think the ends are better right now then last season if you add Sam and Fowler.

But they upgraded with Fowler opposite of Micah. He is good for 8+ sacks.

Kneeland is the run defender who will take over for Tank.

Murray / Sanborn are capable of taking over for Kendricks. He was washed out of way too many run plays.

The more I listen, the more I think Josh Simmons is going to the pick at 12.

He fits their typical bill. Coming off injury, can play LT/RT/OG.

They may want to stick to the trenches and go Simmons / then LB and DT to follow up
