Sorry if mentioned somewhere.....but have we any details on the offer/counter offer for the proposed trade with the Texans. The fact the Texans traded back (out of the 1st with the Giants), possibly indicates they did have a specific target to move up for??

Was this a case of the Texan's really making a derisory offer, or was Stephen (doing a Randy Gregory and messing up a deal).

I'm still of the viewpoint that 'IN THIS DRAFT', even if we 'lost' on the Trade Value Chart, we'd more than make up for it covering pretty much all of our needs, in a draft that's 'value' is in its depth.

I have a feeling the offer from the Texans was not that great. Miami wanted to trade down as well and they couldn't find a trade partner which is why they took Grant - from what I heard and read.

Dallas should have taken a DT if they were going to pass on a WR or they should have taken Warren who I think would have the greatest impact on the Cowboys team as a rookie. IMO that's what the draft is all about. Finding the player who will have the greatest impact.

Clearly the offer wasn’t good enough to move down.

Oh, wait. You’re looking for a gotcha.

"After announcing the pick, the crew of Kyle Youmans, Bryan Broaddus, Bobby Belt, Voch Lombardi talked about the fact that the Texans had sent an offer for No. 12 earlier in the night, that the Cowboys felt was not strong enough. When on the clock, Jones reached back out to Texans GM Nick Caserio to try and get a better offer, but the two sides were not able to come to an agreement.

The Texans currently have the No. 25 pick in the first round, worth 720 points. Dallas' No. 12 pick was worth 1200 points, and the Texans' second-round pick is only worth 320 points. In other words, the Cowboys were likely looking for the Texans' 2026 first rounder, or two seconds."

Not a lot of trades in the first round period. Lack of QB talent is probably part of it. Teams were not willing to give up draft picks to move up in this draft. Teams were just going to play their own hand as is in the first round.

Obviously the Texans did not offer enough to make the deal. And perhaps the Cowboys really, really wanted Booker over any of the others available.

No Houston trade would have enticed me unless it included players on their current roster.

I am not dropping to 25 away from every R1 graded player for picks outside the top 50. That might win mock drafts, but it fails in real life.
Dallas has drafted excellently in the top 18 for over a decade. But from that 25-60 area they have largely been trash. Micah and Cee Dee are All Pro level guys. I don't need one more Schoonover bad enough to take those deals.

Went over this yesterday with one particular poster but my thread yesterday said… if these guys are gone, who you taking if you can’t trade back?

You could see this a mile away. People were reporting there were plenty of people wanting to move back… who’s moving up in the mid 1st? Reports were the trade offers did not align with the draft trade chart.

To sell, someone’s gotta buy…. WAY too many people on here just said “trade back and select future pro bowler X, collect another 3rd etc.” That is just not always realistic.

Exactly. Some will just want to look after the fact at who was on the board when Hou would have been up and then try to put together better draft choices. Problem is the draft is based on the COWBOY'S board. Not based on what random fan A wants based on all of the mock drafts he looks at. We got our guy. Nuff said.

Houston tried to move up with us. When they couldn’t move up with us, or possibly multiple other teams they called ahead of us, they traded right out of the first round altogether with the NYG’s.

That tells me they probably weren’t huge fans of the options around 20-25. I’m sure they had the ammo to move up to 18 or so but didn’t do it once the graded 1st rounders were gone.

That trade back with Houston was pretty far back. We couldn’t even of drafted the “Golden boy” guys here wanted.
