People hating on the Cowboys today for sticking to their board and taking BPA available. It wasn’t a “need” pick and it wasn’t a great pick in terms of value for the position, but I do not believe that the Cowboys came into the draft hoping to draft who they drafted. They just stuck to their board and drafted the best football player they they thought was on the board. I can’t fault that process.
Those meaningless wins at the end of last year cost us a higher draft slot. Without them we could have traded down a few spots and still had this player or taken a player we had rated higher.
What happened to us in the draft wasn’t ideal, but it was predictable. I think the player we chose was the highest rated player on their board and was probably the last first round grade left on their board, or close to it.
