Booker: we got a football player

People hating on the Cowboys today for sticking to their board and taking BPA available. It wasn’t a “need” pick and it wasn’t a great pick in terms of value for the position, but I do not believe that the Cowboys came into the draft hoping to draft who they drafted. They just stuck to their board and drafted the best football player they they thought was on the board. I can’t fault that process.

Those meaningless wins at the end of last year cost us a higher draft slot. Without them we could have traded down a few spots and still had this player or taken a player we had rated higher.

What happened to us in the draft wasn’t ideal, but it was predictable. I think the player we chose was the highest rated player on their board and was probably the last first round grade left on their board, or close to it.

Booker is about the safest pick we could have made in the first round. This kid is super young, very smart, voted captain and his best attribute which is strong as an Ox who brings his lunch pale into work everyday. The kid really does eat, sleep and breathe football.

People was talking crap about the Tyler Smith selection a couple of years ago, ended up eating crow afterwards, same scenario with this Tyler Booker selection. Cowboys got better last night despite not being the flashy pick.

I really hope you are right ....... then I remember Jerry Jones is making the picks.
He's not really making the pick. He may announce it or make the phone call, but they get a consensus first. A group vote if u will. I will be curious what we do at 44. It will be super critical.

Exactly, folks hated on the Frederick pick too. Funny as heck.

Golden, or a trade down for Hampton.

Dak needs guys that get open quickly. Not more time in the pocket to see that no one is open and CeeDee is covered.

What I really wanted was to build up this defense. Build the team around parsons. Get some DTs in here who can actually rush the passer, stop the run so the LBs on this team aren’t fighting blocks constantly.

I like booker as a player. He wasn’t a need. 3-4 picks on the OL in 4 years?

Come on man you can’t be happy about this pick.
Honestly I love to pick because it it should advance out offensive line to top 10 maybe top five. It also pretty much makes us a run first offense. Which will be better some more to the eagles offense. In other words think back to the offense we had in 2014 with Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray. When DeMarco led to leave in rushing. Ball control..
Control the clock keep the defense rested and allow a lot of play action passes and more importantly it means Dak Prescott will be passing less. This is why I can't believe a lot of fans are not happy about it.

Show me Demarco Murray or someone even remotely close to him in our current offense.

i mentioned this yesterday. I don't think there is a perfect answer or a right/wrong answer..but man once my team doesn't have a REALISTIC chance to do damage in playoffs.....I'm looking for losses. At 3-7 last year, I knew things were bleak. Baseball has done it for 100+ years. They call it being sellers at the deadline.

Rico had 3 straight 100 yard rushing games last year and this fanbase badly wants to believe a guard is going to be a difference maker.

Guard was not a need and is not an impact position.

This team is no better today than it was yesterday.

i want to see what the coaches do before i agree or disagree with this.

I dont think the player side is better. I am hoping the coaches understand their jobs, that where i at.

As of the first round pick, we know Schott is not an HC as other teams have HC, so now its up to the coaches and any player who wants to be a winner.

Sanders.

If Cooper Rush can have a better record than Dak last year then almost anyone can.
So Sanders beats out Dak for the starting job or Dak goes down in pre-season. You think Sanders plays ahead of Milton and gets us to the NFC Championship? Really? And you wouldn't be on here criticizing that we didn't get to the Superbowl? None of those outcomes seem likely,

No if you know me you know your wrong in your statement. Jerry is a buffoon when it comes to players and evaluations. But that's totally different than drafting a guy like Booker. I can separate my displeasure with ownership from player evaluation. I'm not about to let my dismay with the two idiots override my joy and the fact we landed a great guard and just might have found the right HC. I'm willing to wait with caution, to let everything settle. Has nothing to do with the last 30 years. This is about now and the next 3-4 years.
He’s miserable, and it’s on purpose, which even makes it worse

lol.

Rush had time last season. The line wasn’t the issue in pass protection.

The WRs on the team couldn’t get open. Even with time. So sure. Let’s grab a guard. Not the WR who excels at getting open quickly. In a run first offense. Let’s not grab a DT who we can build the defense around. Let’s grab a guard to add to the other 2 first rounders. We can collect them all!
Did we have a good run game last season? The WR not being open was because there was no respect for our run game.

Hahaha.

You think they have a plan? They didn’t even leave their own building to hire their head coach.

Plan and the cowboys aren’t words that should be in the same sentence.

The plan is to keep us talking, keep the Cowboys relevant and make as much money as possible in doing that.

Jerry has said as much in his new documentary.

Their plan has nothing to do with putting a SB roster together.
Which is it? They dont have a plan? Or they have a plan to keep us talking?

They will be just as angry at the end of this season as they were last year in week 10.

A lot here actually believe they have a plan and Jerry knows what he’s doing.

The lazy hire of this HC shows me this team is about staying relevant, selling out the stadium and getting the best TV ratings and Forbes ranking they can.

There’s no stopping it. It is what it is. But for anyone to say Booker was the best pick they could have made, is laughable.
We wont know for years who would have been the best pick. Regardless of what any of us experts think. I'm on record saying I didn't want to pick O-line in any round. But I knew it was coming. And it doesn't ,make Booker a bad player.

Might have been there at 20 but taking him high means that he was the first necessary piece of a plan. Or we're just dumb. Hard to tell with this team. Hurting in the trenches on both sides of the ball, so I find it really hard to criticize taking a NEED at 12. Also, he's a hard worker, which will surely be an asset for the locker room. We have some divas.
