WR is an overrated need

If you can't block WR's don't have time to get open. The OC has to keep the TE into block like Ferguson did last year. RB's can't go out and have to stay in to block. You can't run deep patterns, because your QB has to get it out quickly.

How many high draft picks at WR did the Patriots have?

Alot of teams passed on Moss and regretted it. At first I thought Tet might be closest thing to Randy, but he isn't. He doesn't have the football straight line speed that Randy had. If we want a Randy Moss, meaning a generational guy, go get Jeanty. Regardless of position, he's the one guy on offense that moves the needle. Sadly, he will be long gone by 12. Honorable mention goes to Hunter.

No but they had him and it put them over the top for most of the year. How you acquire talent is less important than getting those pieces.

Unfortunately this is a bad roster with lots of needs, one of which is WR2. But I would still go defense with the top pick and preferably the top 2 picks at least.

Yes we don’t have a proven number 2, but we have 4 other guys making the roster: Tolbert, Turpin, Mingo, Flournoy. We technically used our 4th for Mingo who should be number two territory at this point in his career.

Now, one of these guys can develop into the number 2 (not Turpin who is a dangerous weapon). I can see Tolbert, Mingo and/or Flournoy taking a big leap this year. But we already have 5 guys at WR the team wants to give snaps to. The team def views WR as a high need per the 30 visits, but this doesn’t sit right with me given the above. Plus I left off Jalen Brooks bc he’s been atrocious IMO.

To me, CB is the most pressing need on this roster and leads me to question why Jahdae Barron isn’t a bigger rumor for us at 12 than someone like Golden. Barron would be able to own the slot and play outside if needed + adding another playmaker to our defense which was abysmal last season. How can we trust Bland/Diggs to be healthy? At this point it’s more likely one will be injured.

Trenches is always a need so there’s also that angle.

Finally, an elite TE like Warren might make even more sense than a WR in how it could help the run & pass O.

Am I tripping, or is WR an overrated need and we’d be just as good or better off going trenches, DB, or TE?

Glad the team agreed with me and went trenches over WR.

We still need a CB, DT & RB more than WR IMO, but I would not mind if we have a WR we love here as a potential 1b in the 2nd.

We have a mega star WR + cast of guys with their own niches & potential growth.

Did teams like Bills, Chiefs, Commanders, Ravens, Chargers, Texans come into the playoffs with that much of a better WR unit than we have? They all had much better defenses than us.

I can’t see how WR is a bigger need than defense/trenches - can’t win when you’re giving up most points in the league right? We were at the bottom.

Plus a guy like Warren or bolstering the OL is bringing much more to this offense’s overall foundation than a guy like Golden IMO.

All those teams have a better quarterback. Dak actually needs very good playmakers to even come close to them.

If there is not a top 15 defensive tackle you can’t force a pick and think you have a top defensive or offensive line by selecting one in the 1st round. That’s how you end up with a Carver or Shariff Floyd at 12.

On the other hand, I’m gutted that the 49ers took Alfred Collins at 43 because I believe that was the Dallas pick and then a bunch of discussion in the war room followed. DT1 just good as Grant.
