Should moving Tyler Smith to LT be considered

I think with the addition of Booker, your best line might be (from left to right) Smith, Hoffman, Beebe, Booker, Guyton.

With drafting Booker, ther interior OL looks like it could be dominant for the next decade. However the OT's are still very questionable. Guyton showed some promise. However overall he really struggled and alot of maturity questions popped up while he was sidelined. Getting healthy scratches when he was ready to play is very concerning. Can we count on him to be our LT?

Smith came in cold and played LT against Pittsburgh and Detroit and had strong starts. Hoffman played well down the stretch at RG, and his skill set may actually make him a better fit at LG. I think you play him there, he may actually be a plus starter
I’m hoping we get out 5 best players out there.

If we play as a unit and not individuals, we could have a top three offensive line right now. This booker is a beast.
Yeah, if Dallas plays their cards right then Booker the Booker pick is going to look really good.

We should be able to block. Now we need skill players who can threaten the defense.

Regardless, Dallas has options now that should make their OL be above average as a unit at worst on paper.

I’m having problem comprehending an 11 foot wingspan. 35 inch arms, 11 inch hands, 3 feet across his shoulders.

The rookie left tackle had a great third-quarter last season. He came on strong. No, he’s staying there.
He literally got benched and had to split snaps with Edoga....Not sure came on strong is the phrasing I would use. Not saying the potential isnt still there for Guyton, but he got abused far too often in 2024.

No for me. While Booker looks like he could play either guard well, the fact is he was the LG starter for Bama the last two years. Moving Smith from guard to tackle, Guyton from LT to RT and Booker to RG is moving too many players at once. Continuity on the o-line is a big part of its success, don't think shuffling the players all over the place is a good idea. Add to that the big contract Steele has, depending on Hoffman to anchor LG, when he's been on the team 3 years and hasn't been able to nail down a staring gig, and playing mostly center in college, is assuming way too much.

Plugging Booker in at RG and let him adapt after playing LG in college, leaving Guyton, Smith and Beebe where they played last year is the best choice.

Imho, of course!

He’s young and hasn’t played a lot of Tackle.

He was a Tight End that got moved to Tackle in college.

If he busts then he busts but it’s far too early to count him out because he’s a great prospect.

I like where your going but I’d leave Hoffman on the right side but Booker at LG ( that’s where he has played ) don’t need a repeat from last year

I'm not saying to count him out of anything, but lets not pretend like Guyton got better as the year went on either. He had a couple good games mid season around the SF game, but for 80% of the year the guy was a total liability on the field. The Cowboys absolutely need to have a plan B ready if we dont see improvement.

Why move booker to RG, why not keep him at LG where he played well?

Yes. I don't understand the hesitancy to put the best player at the most important position. Hopefully Guyton takes the next step, but it should be plan b.
It is almost certain that Tyler Smith is significantly better at Guard then he is LT
So what happens there is you weaken one position to strengthen another.
True, LT is the single most important position on the line. But you have to carefully weigh such a move. Last resort.

Steele got better as the season progressed. It may have just taken longer for him to get all the way back from his knee injury. He's a hard worker, so maybe he'll get back closer to the form that resulted in his contract extension after he allowed one sack in 2022. He allowed nine last year.
he showed no real improvement until late in the season and only on his rush side. He was still bad as regards pass protection and at that point it had been two full years since his injury.
he is not going to get any better

Those of you making the point to leave Smith at LG are making sense….but what if he is also the best LT on the team?

What if Guyton doesn’t improve? Do you leave him in there because he was a high pick? Do you spend yet another first rounder on a LT NEXT year again??

You aren’t getting a plug and play NFL LT with a mid round pick. You’ve gotta pay Smith or let him walk so he needs to play LT if Guyton doesn’t take it.

If they were gonna move Smith they would have done it last season. They’re hoping he and Booker can help the tackles by dominating the interior.

it is too the overall benefit of the team to put each player where he plays the best. Tyler is much better at guard than he is at LT

1 million percent

I don't think it should be considered; I think they are planning on it.

Steel may even make a better RG than RT. Something to consider....
Don’t think Steele is made to play inside. They discussed it on one of the podcasts this week and said it wouldn’t happen.

I don't agree. His pass protection was better.

Agree, but he is indeed a capable LT, and what happens if Guyton doesn’t improve?

What good is an All Pro guard if you’ve got a turnstile at LT? They don’t use free agency, you aren’t getting one in the mid rounds, and they can’t spend another top pick on OL next year.

Jerry said the Booker pick was all about protecting Dak. LT seems more important than guard in that area.

I’m not a fan of that idea.

He’s best at guard. Larry Allen was best at guard. Zach Martin was best at guard.

Hoffman hasn’t proven much and for people to just assume he’s better than Steele on the oline seems premature.
