Jaydon Blue is the fastest offensive player we drafted this century

If hes going to be in there on receiving downs pass protection is a must. It's not always up the the OC, if the defense is bringing extra guys you cant have defenders running free.
still does not make it any better; the QB needs to also be ready to audible. But you are acting like this is a deal breaker and it is not

but remember what people were saying after his rookie season?
I blame Parcells for that kid's falloff. Parcells pounded on him to change his running style. He was a far more creative runner his rookie season. When Parcells (and the fan base) fell in love with Barber Julius changed up his running style to be more like Barber. Only he was like 25 pound lighter than Barber and not anywhere near suited to run that way. Once he last his mojo he was never able to get it back. It happens but I really think had he been drafted somewhere else with a coach willing to let him be himself he would have had a much better career.

Pass blocking ability is absolutely a deal breaker for getting in games on passing downs. There have been many super talented athletes who didn't the opportunity to see the field more because they can't block.

We could go through film all day about the importance of pass protection for RBs.....here is an Excellent Rico Dowdle pass pro example

That play was the difference in a sack vs a 30 yard gain. Many coaches will tell you that if you can't block you can't play. Not saying that is the future of Jaydon Blue in the NFL, but its certainly an area he needs to improve in, and it could be the reason we don't see him on the field as much as we would like early on.

Blue didn't amount to crap at UT being the leading RB. He didn't even break 750 yards in a season. Don't expect much out of this cat.

Very true. Pass protection is critical for any RB who wants to become a starter in the NFL. The key in the video below is that Jaydon Blue truly acknowledges he has a fumbling problem and is eager to get to Dallas to receive help from his new coaches to fix his fumbling issue. That is a huge step forward and a good thing to see from Jaydon.

Another thing, the video clip you used of Rico Dowdle "pass protecting" was a poor example. Rico got backtracked immediately straight into Dak. lol

Check this tape out...

Voch Lombardi does an excellent job breaking down film on Jaydon Blue. He mentions everything Blue brings to the table, but also mentions how Jaydon Blue needs to improve on his ball protection. Also, go to both the 6:23 minute and 7:00 minute marks of this video. Lombardi shows how Jaydon Blue actually can pass protect pretty well. Certainly much better than the Rico Dowdle "pass protection" play you showed us. lol

So, yes, "pass protection" is very important for any RB who plans on playing for and especially starting for the Dallas Cowboys, and so is ball protection. The key thing is Jaydon Blue absolutely agrees and acknowledges he needs to improve his ball protection and is eager to get "coached up" by the Cowboys new coaches. Blue is also eager to improve on his "pass protection", but he has shown at Texas that he has the capability of doing "pass protection" and "ball security" better. We should all be excited to have Jaydon Blue and see him improve and progress as a Dallas Cowboy.

Jaydon got injured early in the 2024 season with a high ankle sprain which cost him much playing time, yet still rushed for 730 yards, a 5.4 ypc average and 8 rushing TDs. That doesn't include 368 yards receiving for a 8.8 yards per reception average and 6 pass catching TDs. 1,100 scrimmage yards combined for a 6.2 yards per play average and 18 TDs. Pretty darn good for playing injured most of the season. If he had been healthy, he easily would have rushed for 1k+ yards, not including higher pass catching yards and total TDs.
