The Cowboys will probably get the #1 overall pick in 2026

Can Dak make it through the season?

The Cowboys don't look very good, and if Dak can't make it through the season the Cowboys could end up with a top 3 or top 5 pick.

Wasn't there a thread in the NFL Zone that said something along the lines of Milton will embarrass Dak by same poster?

Now this is quite possible and will continue to be for Dak's remaining years.

Maybe so:
We get the Super Bowl champs twice, the NFC runner up champs twice, niot sure who else except for a 3rd place schedule.

I see an improvement over last year's 7-10 squad. Dak is back, OL is a year older and has some nice young talent. RB is in better shape. DE is in better shape. LB I think is looking better. CB play should improve, especially when Diggs is back on the field.

Concerns are DT (shocker) and WR, but I don't think it's as big of an issue as most think. Tolbert is steadily improving. He was more or less the #2 for most of last season, and did fine with Rush throwing him the ball. Turpin and Blue can stretch the field. Another year should do Flournoy some good. If Mingo has even a novice grasp of the playbook by kickoff, we should be fine there.

Oddly enough, I think the coaching staff as a whole looks better. Not a knock on McCarthy. I wouldn't have been too upset if he was retained, but top to bottom, I see an energetic, talented group. That enthusiasm should rub off on the players.

I don't see a Super Bowl team. Heck, I barely see a playoff team, but I definitely don't see a 1-win team. Remember, we still have TC cuts to sift through and there's no telling who else will be added to the roster. Could see some trades too. Lots of cap space sitting there to make moves. I don't think we are looking at the final product, but as is, I like how this team is starting to shape up.

A new top 10 QB would be nice. Aikman was the last top 10, actually number 1 the Cowboys took.

Problem is the horrible Dak contract that will haunt this team for years to come.

The amount of change will be too much, and certain problems remain.
Contrary to what I posted before, I don't think Joe Milton is the answer. I watched him at Tennessee, and was really surprised he made it to the NFL.
I had him mixed up with Hendon Hooker, who preceded him at UT. He may be better than I think, but at Tennessee he was not yet a fully skilled leader. Joshua Dobbs was the better of these three quarterbacks, but Hooker is very good, too.
And that's the problem with today's college game; the quarterbacks barely stay a year, and then they leap to the NFL draft.
Milton is very talented, but whether or not he is ready for the NFL remains to be seen.
But the Cowboys remain without a capable leader under center, and that doesn't bode well for any team- much less a team struggling to adapt to a new coach.
I think Schottenheimer may have great potential, but he is taking the reigns at a bad time.
Not to mention a defense that is also rebuilding under new leadership.
I think 1-16 is very possible for this squad. If they struggle early, I think the wheels come off early.
Browns ask you to hold their beer

Wow. If you are mixing up Hooker and Milton, you must be an expert.

You’re delusional and a bit looney, we have more than a capable leader under center, and we’re definitely not going 1-16
A leader who they are already being careful with because of a hamstring issue…in April?

Really?

And what has he ever done to show he is capable of anything other than regular season wins?

Not sure I would call out anybody as delusional at this point. You can say we are not going 1-16 but we are not a playoff team, especially with our division.

In fact - best to not say anything and let it play out at this point.

God almighty they haven’t played 1 game yet, this is lunacy. This may be the craziest post in CZ history.

so in your haste to dump on Dak you tied yourself to Milton bandwagon and now when 100s of people said don't get too excited...now you are jumping off the bandwagon

now we would be lucky to get #1 over all pick, but I think we have competition for that, with Cleveland, Giants, Tenn, Jags, Raiders.

btw, this has been your prediction pretty much the past 5 years...even a blind squirrle finds a nut now and then.

Why do you have a hotdog as your avatar? Lol, Please share your thoughts.

If the Cowboys get the 1st pick in 2026, I sure hope Arch Manning comes out early! I believe this young man could help turn back the clock for the Cowboys. I see a string of SB runs if Arch is the QB going forward

Pretty unlikely but if Dak goes down again early and this coach loses the locker room it could happen. Would also involve a pile of injuries.
