Wrote a post this week about concerns with the team's run defense, but if they can hold up on the early downs, they potentially could have special passing defense:

-They are loaded with edge rushers where several can be deployed in many spots. Parsons, Fowler are the proven guys, Ez is very advanced as a pass rusher heading into the league, then you have a player like Sam Williams on a contract year who might be the most talented out of the group not named Parson. Throw in Kneeland who has a non stop motor that was starting to figure it out prior to his injury and a player like Turner who was a former 1st rd selection. It is not a homer opinion, but the Cowboys might of the best group of pass rushers in the entire league and this is without Overshown who will come back at some point next season, hopefully fully healthy.

Keep in mind, Eberflus scheme is all about getting quick, up the field pressure and forcing the QB to throw quickly into tight windows. He has the players who can effectively accomplish that. It's all about surviving the run downs and unleashing hell!

-We do have health concerns about two potential starters at the corner position, but if all three get onto the field, the sky is the limit. First Revel at this same stage is the better prospect then both Diggs/Bland were. He was been recruited to transfer to all the power schools but decided he wanted to stay at East Carolina cause they gave him his chance. Diggs gets a ton of flack mainly cause of his tackling, but he has proven to be a lock down corner. He has had success against the top receivers in the game today. Bland is a turnover machine, still developing as a corner, but he is a true play maker at the position.

We hear that Eberflus wants to play a heavy zone scheme, so did Quinn and Zimmer, but they realized they have special man corners. Yes, he will disguise his coverages, but I am expecting a ton of press man cross the board. If the corners can play strong press coverage and our pass rush gets quick pressure, that is where all the turnovers start to happen like we saw two seasons ago.

This is why my first post was about their run defense, if they can just hold up, they could become an elite championship level defense. Teams are going to try to avoid the Cowboys pass rush at all costs, by running the football against this small front. This is why the defense success will be all about winning the early downs!

if the run defense is not effective then it won't matter as much. we will be in a lot of 2nd and 3rd and short situations.the run defense is key
Literally, or we'll face a run first offense and they'll run down our throats and we'll never have them in 3rd and long situations. Kinda like Bills, 49ers, and Greenbay have done to us.

Run defense in December and January is key. I think dallas fans and players like to blow their load in September and October or panic in those months. One or the other. Not mentally tough enough to stay the course

Yeah there is certainly high potential with the pass defense this year. The Cowboys seem to be all in on the ability of the front 4 to reach the QB. If they can and drop 7 most of the time it could cover up some of our issues in the secondary. Big thing is going to be can they force teams into those passing downs or not.

And the offense can't consistently fall behind teams
how does the offense fall behind? its the team that falls behind. when the defense gives up 6 straight TDs of 75 yards or more, that's not on offense... people who just want to blame Dak, then say he couldn't keep up. but that speaks volumes about how bad the defense is, as scoring on every possession is not realistic. same with Balt game and detroit.

when defense was giving up 42, 28, 47, 30, 34, 34, 41, 26 to winning teams *except NO, but they were hot in the begining of the year). its tough to keep up with offensive scoring. this also means the defense wasn't getting off the field and limiting offenses opportunities.

my point isn't to put the entire onus on defense. its team. and the defense sucked much worse than offense sucked and when they both suck. you end up with a team like cowboys.

Don't forget Payton. He's going to produce more here because he doesn't have to be THE guy, just one in the rotation.

This
Defense will look good early then get run off the field in December when we have no 1T and Osa and Parsons are worn down

As an OC, i tell my QB, run to Parsons side esp if Diggs is on the same side

Who really cares about potential? Show us fans results! The Cowboys have had “potential” for the past three-years and where did that get them? A blowout loss at home against the 7th seeded Packers. The Cowboys are the spitting image of their owner: all flash and no substance; running their mouths, but unable to back it up on the field. Sure…they can beat the bottom feeders and downtrodden of the NFL… but when the stakes are high and the opposition is tough, Dallas wilts; they get smacked in the mouth by their opponents with nary a response in-kind. Easy to be relevant in September, quite another to be relevant in December.
Sadly, to realize potential one needs heart, discipline and perseverance to stay the course; of which the Cowboys have none of those attributes.

I would see Sam Williams getting dangled in a trade

THere can be (and is with this team) more than one problem.

Payton Turner has never been asked to be "the guy". Never even close. He has barely even been "a guy"
He has Zero expectations here where he had the pressure of living up to that 1st rd pick in no. Never should of been a 1st rounder where change of scenery was needed

A good chance that they show improvement year over year and be in position to have more improvement in 2026.

I’m hoping Kneeland takes a big step. Then if Ezbeiruaku can blitz that would be pretty awesome to have 3 pass rushers

They also have Fowler and Williams. They can put 4 of them on the field at the same time.
