TRADED Cowboys trade for George Pickens and 2027 6th for 2026 3rd and 2027 5th

I rather would have traded for a defensive player. all the offense is not going to translate to winning in post season.
This really is the issue. I like the trade, I think it move the Cowboys in the direction of more wins, but we still neglected parts of the defense and have total question marks at both tackle spots. I still struggle to view this team as a serious contender, and it feels like another early exit playoff team.

Is Jerry ready to admit Mingo was a bad trade? I don’t see how he gets on the field with Tolbert and Turpin
Jerry Jones might publicly admit the Jonathan Mingo trade was a poor one but everyone should keep such a personal admission like that from him in perspective. If the media followed up that admission with the question 'Do you think another general manager for this team would have traded for Mingo?', Jones would respond that it was the best move anyone in the league would have also made at the time.

If he leaves after 1 year what is our comp pick likely to be?

Just depends on his play.

If he fails to click with Prescott or doesn't grow up. Then he may be bounce around the league like Claypool/Johnson on cheap deals which would be no comp pick.

If he shows #1 talent and grows up, 3rd round ez.

Dude not only do we not know if he’s a 1 year rental, but we desperately needed a #2 receiver. It was the teams biggest need
teams biggest need was DT, a good DT, not Mazi and a 7th round pick. we still have holes in LB group. but I am sure you are going to tout Shermar. we have two UDFA at saftey and the other two are cooked and all three CBs are coming off injuries. and you are saying #2 WR was the biggest need?!!!

geez people...

This makes zero sense.

A 3rd for a one-year guy with major character issues on a team that isn't going anywhere this year anyway.
Especially when they could have traded up and got a young TMAC for a 3rd round pick....it would of cost less....and got a future #1 WR.....but oh no...thats not how Jerry does business.

steal? here is our 3rd rounders over the past few years

Cooper Beebe
Overshown
Tolbert
Osa
Pollard
Gallup
Lewis

the only miss was Gallimore...

so its way way more than 25%...but people just tend to make up numbers in their head without actually looking at the facts.
And they are on inexpensive multi-year contracts too, which is critical with our suddenly cheapskate owners.

If the latter, you gonna give him a huge contract bigger than CeeDee"s?

A third. A third that could very well be high in the round.

For a headcase rental that Tomlin couldn't corral.

This is why Jerry's Cowboys never win anything.
Pickens is a talented player, it'll be interesting what a future contract looks like for him. If he has a good season and ends up being a rental it's a possibility a 3rd round comp pick comes back if they don't re-sign him.

It's absolutely a gamble, but I'm glad this wasn't a 1st or 2nd rounder. For additional comparative context Jalen Tolbert and Michael Gallup were 3rd round picks. It took Tolbert into his 3rd season to contribute. Gallup had 2 good seasons here.
