TRADED Cowboys trade for George Pickens and 2027 6th for 2026 3rd and 2027 5th

Pickens is a knucklehead and his selfish sideline antics are tiring. With that said, he's also very talented and gives us one of the best #2 WR's in football now. For the price we paid, I think this was definitely worth the risk. Hopefully a change of scenery will do him some good in terms of his attitude.

The 9 years of watching him. Nothing trumps what we have all seen.
ah, the tried and true eye test gotcha. we've seen different things then. if you want to argue he's not a good qb, fine. want to point to the humiliating losses and deer in headlights? i'm with you. not being good at the deep ball is empirically false though.

Kinda signals giving our 4th this year for Mingo wasn’t a genius move. That’s what I always conplain about is plan. All decisions have to be coordinated to be effective. A 4th could have got you a player who could help this year. Now your 4th is gonna be fighting for a roster spot and be 3rd WR at best. I think Turpin is better WR3 option most of the time
It says nothing about Mingo. Pick 114 for Mingo was not a bad move. He is going to be on the team and he will contribute.

Claypool was another diva baby that they had soured on. In that final season he had been benched for an on the field incident with another player and then later famously celebrated a catch when the Steelers had no timeouts and he let the clock run out costing them a chance at a win. He got fried by the organization and fans for that. Steelers did sign Smith-Schuster to a 2nd contract, it was a one year deal. He got injured a missed a bulk of that season and despite coming back for the playoffs, the Steelers simply let him walk (where he then signed another one year deal with KC).

What's funny here is that this isn't he said, she said stuff here. Pickens antics have been out in the open. Steelers wanted him gone due to that and we obliged them.
what are pickens antics? this isn't a gotcha question, I've just heard the consensus that he's a diva but not much on the specifics.

If it was for a 5th, the league would be going insane about how it was the biggest steal of the year.

no. You said we should have kept our 3rd round pick because Pickens doesn’t make us a Super Bowl team.

You can’t say “he’s not worth a third because he won’t win us a Super Bowl” without conversely implying that keeping that third would.
the goal is to build a team to win the superbowl, if we are not doing that, then what are we doing. Pickens doesn't make us a superbowl team, the trade being worth it or not. defense is what gets you to the superbowl and we need to invest heavily on defense. instead we buy flash, more scoring, yet defense who gave up 6 TDs last year on 6 straight drives of 75 yards or more. same against detroit, same against baltimore. and three big losses, because why? the offense needs to keep pace in scoring? is that realistic to expect and offense to score every drive (perhaps if they played the cowboys defense) and before using injuries as an excuse, there was no injuries against Saints, and most of the defense was available against detroit and Baltimore...

its not about value of a trade. its about making the moves that gets the team closer to a championship. this doesn't. just see 21,22, 23 seasons....top 5 offense, NADA to show for it.

Spot on. No other team in NFL would have done this trade. There was no market for him. Cowboys had to over-pay to 'force' the trade.
Cardinals were reported on several occasions to have inquired about him in an attempt to pair him with Harrison and help for Kyler.

it is a bad move. Mingo is now in his last year of contract. if he contributes he will cost a lot more money than a draft pick would. and he hasn't produced at a level close to tolbert in the past couple of years. he was a waste of a trade. in mid season. for a team that was going no where fast. and a player already in decline.

bad trade. bad move no matter how you look at it.

I have real hope that will be the case. Still wouldn't mind a good veteran to show him the NFL level DT ropes.
Appreciate the response, I would too, but don't see that happening. They did however bring in one of theost highly regarded DL coaches to develop him and Mazi

Tomlin also has a history of failure with some guys (particularly WRs). Not sure why he's seen as some sort of guru, where if he can't manage a player, nobody else could.
yeah tomlin is a wonderful coach, one of the best. but there's got to be a reason nearly every receiver in pittsburgh becomes a "headcase".

Oh really, a big receiver that can catch the ball and can block is a bad move at pick 114.

Top WR2’s get at least $25 million AAV w/ $75 million guaranteed. Of course that’s going to go up in the future. What is it about Pickens that makes you believe he’ll show up for the last year of his rookie deal without a new contract? Micah isn’t going to.

If he’s a “keeper” the time to sign him is now. Right now. The same can be said of Parsons, too, but no sense of urgency. Does Jerry know Pickens’ agent’s name?
There is nothing about Pickens that makes me think he won't show up.
He knows his perception. What is he going to do? Hold out a year and have everyone run from him? He isn't in a position of power here. He needs this season to get his payday. What he produced in the past was not enough to get him paid by Pitts.
